The Director of Defense Policy will play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing Motorola Solutions' strategic objectives within the defense sector. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive policy strategies that align with company goals and address key issues in defense and national security. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Department of Defense (DoD) or defense-related policy, with a proven ability to navigate and influence the legislative process on Capitol Hill.
Responsibilities:
Lead the development and implementation of defense policy initiatives, advocating for Motorola Solutions' interests with the DoD, Congress, and other relevant government agencies.
Monitor, analyze, and interpret defense legislation, regulations, and policy trends, providing timely insights and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers within the DoD, including the Pentagon, as well as members of Congress and their staff, particularly those on defense-related committees.
Represent Motorola Solutions in various forums, including industry associations, think tanks, and public events, to advance the company's defense policy agenda.
Collaborate cross-functionally with business development, sales, legal, and engineering teams to ensure policy strategies support business objectives and product development.
Provide expertise on DoD contracting processes and procurement policies, supporting the capture of new business opportunities.
Engage with organizations such as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to understand emerging technologies and policy implications.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree is required. Preferred emphasis in Political Science, International Relations, Public Policy or related field.
Demonstrated experience working with Congress and a strong understanding of the legislative process.
In-depth knowledge of DoD operations, budget, and procurement processes.
Proven ability to work effectively with defense-oriented stakeholders and policy makers.
Prior experience working for a company within the defense industry.
Direct experience working with the Pentagon and familiarity with its organizational structure and decision-making processes, a plus.
Direct experience with or knowledge of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
Experience working on Capitol Hill, specifically with defense-related committees or in a legislative affairs capacity.
Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Target Base Salary Range: $220,000 - $250,000 USD
