Position: Value-Based Financial Analyst and Health Care Economist
Reporting To: Chief Medical Officer
Location: Bentonville, AR

About The Position:
At Heartland Whole Health Institute, we aim to be a catalyst for change in the health care industry. At the center of our work is the call to action to build and deploy a model of value-based payment transformation that changes the trajectory of health care in the Heartland and beyond. To advance this goal, we are searching for an experienced individual who will play a pivotal role in analyzing and forecasting financial trends related to fully capitated, total cost of care agreements in various value-based agreements and self-funded insurance plans. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in health care forecasting, analyzing insurance claims, developing financial models, and well versed in alternative payment models that support sustainable, outcomes-oriented care.
This position will report to the Chief Medical Officer and focus on driving financial and insurance-related efforts that align with Heartland Whole Health Institute's mission. The successful candidate will need to collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support the introduction and success of new payment models.
Job Responsibilities:
Insurance Claims Analysis:
Analyze insurance claims data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for cost savings and improved care delivery.
Analyze financial data and performance metrics related to capitated payment models and total cost of care agreements.
Leverage claims data to inform the design and financial modeling of alternative payment models, including for self-insured employers.
Provide recommendations to leadership based on claims analysis to inform self-insured employer payment model prototypes.
Financial Modeling & ROI Analysis:
Develop and refine financial models to assess the viability and sustainability of at-risk arrangements within alternative payment models.
Conduct economic modeling and forecasting to assess the impact of various healthcare initiatives and policy changes.
Collaborate with actuarial teams to evaluate risk and develop pricing strategies for self-funded insurance plans.
Utilize advanced statistical methods and software to interpret complex datasets and derive actionable insights.
Conduct ROI analysis for new health plan designs, working closely with human resources, brokers, and financial stakeholders.
Report on ROI analysis for value-based systems to Heartland Whole Health Institute leadership.
Alternative Payment Model Development:
Support the development and implementation of alternative payment models at the new health campus in Northwest Arkansas, recognizing that alternative payment models are a key focus for Heartland Whole Health Institute.
Provide support for additional alternative payment model initiatives as needed.
Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:
Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to identify opportunities and risks for the organization.
Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior executives, summarizing findings and recommendations.
Work with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate the adoption of alternative payment models.
Provide financial insights and recommendations to leadership, ensuring financial strategies align with organizational goals.
Conduct economic modeling and forecasting to assess the impact of healthcare initiatives and policy changes.
Required Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Healthcare Management, or a related field.
Master’s degree preferred.
Certifications preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Healthcare Professional (CHFP), Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), or Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA)
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in financial analysis, health insurance, and capitated models
Strong understanding of self-funded insurance plans and total cost of care agreements.
Proficiency in financial modeling, data analysis, and statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, SQL).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.
Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and engaging with stakeholders at various levels.
Knowledge of healthcare regulations and policies impacting payment models and cost management.
Demonstrated experience working with insurance claims data and financial modeling.
Strong understanding of health plan design and alternative payment models.
Experience with developing and analyzing ROI models for healthcare payment systems.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work on complex financial tasks independently or as part of a team.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are needed to present complex financial concepts to colleagues and stakeholders clearly and effectively.
Ability to think critically and make sound judgments in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Adherence to the highest ethical standards when managing and working with sensitive financial data.

Physical demands: In the work environment described, position requires sitting at a desk and utilizing a computer and a telephone for prolonged periods of time and good eye/hand coordination, bending and stretching for filing, and physical stamina to lift a minimum of 10 pounds. Visual acuity to review written materials is required for this job. Additionally, this position requires meeting the public and the organization in a professional and courteous manner.
Work environment: Work will be performed in an office environment. The physical arrangement of the office may require the position to work in an open environment within close proximity to other colleagues. Work will be performed in an office environment full-time (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.) The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate. Occasional evening and weekend work hours, and some local travel will be required.
