Job Description:

Director Surgical Services

Collaborates with and supports the Chief Nursing Officer to accomplish the objectives of the Surgical Services Division and overall strategic plan of the hospital. Directs the day-to-day operation of the division to ensure effective leadership, staff productivity, sound employee relations, responsible fiscal practices, and efficient, safe, effective, high-quality patient care.

• Flexible, able to prioritize and address multiple responsibilities concurrently
• Works effectively under stress and frequently changing job requirements/situations
• Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance
• Ability to read, write legibly, and converse effectively in the English language
• Proficient computer skills
• Demonstrates effective response to patient crisis/emergency situations
• Proficient in quality improvement methodologies

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

• Licensed as Registered Nurse in the state of Oregon
• Master’s degree in nursing or health-related field preferred or willing to obtain within 24 months of hire
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 8 years clinical experience in an acute care hospital in the last 10 years
• Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in surgery or surgical services
• Minimum 3 years managerial experience in surgery or surgical services
• Experience in project management and organizational development preferred
• Lean experience preferred
