We are looking for a Sr. Director, Strategy & Business Development with a strong background in strategy and exceptional analytical, problem-solving as well as strong communication skills. Reporting to the SVP Strategy and Business Development, the ideal candidate further has a proven track record of leading important projects and of building effective relationships with people at varying levels of complex organizations.

What you’ll do:


•    Lead and execute Strategy projects, effectively working with key stakeholders to frame strategic questions, identify creative, impactful, and practical solutions supported by analysis, and lead teams through the execution of these strategies. 
•    Partner with the operating businesses by building rapport with key stakeholders across the Loblaw group of companies to effectively and seamlessly work with them on project delivery while acting as an advisor to them on important strategic questions and the annual planning and review cycle.
•    Grow and manage a small team of 3-4 FTE by directing the work of team members while creating appropriate roles for them which align with their personal development goals. Investing in mentoring and coaching to provide opportunities for the team to continue to grow and develop. 
•    Act as thought partner to the SVP Strategy & Business Development and Loblaw leadership as well as stakeholders at the Group level (George Weston Limited).

What you’ll bring:


The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong Strategy skillset, given their primary responsibilities will be to direct strategy work. An ideal candidate will also have personal attributes such as the confidence and credibility to interact with senior-level business leaders, being self-directed and organized, and showing up authentically.

•    8+ years of relevant experience in Strategy and Business Development, ideally at a top-tier consulting firm, or in Corporate Strategy/Corporate Development at a leading Canadian retail company.
•    3+ years of direct team leadership experience. 
•    Strong financial/business acumen applied to our core businesses, with prior experience in Canadian Retail, Grocery or Healthcare considered an asset.
•    Project management abilities to structure work in executable pieces, support complex projects and lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
•    Creative problem-solving skills to tackle complex projects and deal with unstructured problems. 
•    Demonstrated ability to build effective and trustful relationships in complex matrix organizations.
•    Willingness and ability to be flexible, self-directed, and organized.
•    Excellent communication skills to distill key message for senior audiences (including the C-suite and Boards) and effectively and confidently present findings, recommendations, and opinions.
