Embedded Engineer - Audio

Description -

Responsible for designing, developing, and managing software features for a A/V collaboration products from product definition and planning through production, release, and end of life. Individuals in these roles may have responsibilities across multiple software engineering disciplines, and the goal is the development of creative, industry-leading, software services and solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop Innovative Audio Features: Create advanced audio functionalities for our next-generation video endpoints and conferencing solutions, focusing on sound quality and user experience.
  • Optimize Audio Solutions: Collaborate with the software engineering team to identify and integrate the best audio solutions for our products, enhancing performance and reliability.
  • Enhance Audio Capabilities on Android: Design and implement unique audio capabilities to extend and enrich our Android platform, ensuring seamless audio integration.
  • Prototype & Experiment with Audio Technologies: Build prototypes and experiment with new audio technologies and designs, driving innovation in our audio offerings.
  • Collaborate in an Agile Environment: Participate actively in a highly collaborative and agile team, contributing to project goals with a focus on audio engineering excellence.
  • Plan & Develop Audio Software: Plan, design, and develop embedded software applications with a focus on audio performance, ensuring high-quality audio output.
  • Manage Audio Development Projects: Oversee audio-related software development projects, adhering to organizational security and quality guidelines.
  • Deploy & Debug Audio Systems: Deploy and troubleshoot audio software initiatives, ensuring best practices are followed throughout the development lifecycle to achieve optimal audio results.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Audio Processing Expertise: In-depth knowledge of audio processing, including capture, format conversion, analog-to-digital (A2D) conversion, scaling, and filtering. Familiarity with advanced audio processing techniques, such as machine learning algorithms for audio enhancement, is advantageous.
  • Embedded Audio Systems: Experience in developing and debugging embedded C/C++/JAVA applications with a focus on audio in multi-threaded environments.
  • Complex Software Systems: Understanding of complex software systems, including enterprise, middleware, firmware, and embedded systems, with a focus on their audio components.
  • Audio Software Testing: Proficient in software application testing methodologies, including the creation and execution of test plans, and debugging audio software using appropriate scripts and tools.
  • Android Media Framework: Familiarity with the Android Media Framework and its application to audio systems is a plus.
  • Communication & Detail Orientation: Excellent communication skills, with a strong passion for learning and meticulous attention to detail in audio engineering tasks.

Scope & Impact:

  • Decisions and actions typically impact multiple departments and may have downstream repercussions lasting multiple weeks.
  • Advises various internal, partner, and customer teams on the needs and requirements of target markets.
  • Works closely with architects and technology leads, directly engaging with internal and external software development teams.

Complexity:

  • Moderate: Some senior management interface; frequent cross-functional/cross-organizational interaction on the execution of tactics.
  • Applies developed subject matter knowledge to solve common and complex business issues within established guidelines and recommends appropriate alternatives. Works on problems of diverse complexity and scope. May act as a team or project.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant area or demonstrated competence. Typically 7-10+ years of embedded software development.
