What this job involves: JLL is currently seeking a dynamic and qualified individual for the role of Shipping and Receiving Hazardous Materials Technician to provide reliable, timely, and efficient support. The position entails working with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization. The individual will require independent judgment to plan, prioritize, and organize a diverse workload. This role provides a wide variety of support services to the client office and the successful candidate will be detail oriented with strong organizational skills and a team player attitude.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Prepare required shipping documents for dangerous goods, diagnostic and research samples, etc. while complying with export, customs, GMP and DEA regulations for controlled substances
  • Handle limited quantities and exceptions for hazmat shipping and dangerous goods
  • Select the most appropriate mode of transportation for shipments
  • Maintain safety checklists and working knowledge of all functions including shipping, receiving, mail
  • Perform shipping and receiving duties supporting the shipment of goods and received supplies
  • Report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor
  • Maintain adequate supply of shipping materials and forward requisitions for approval
  • Keep work area and equipment clean and orderly, following prescribed safety regulations
  • Deliver packages in timely fashion to appropriate end users while obtaining delivery signatures
  • Provide pick-up and delivery of mail services
  • Monitor daily Allocation Shipping Schedule
  • Manage non-hazardous waste, drums & plastics including receipt, delivery, and inventory coordination
  • Coordinate waste & plastic pick-up and removal
  • Witness monthly document destruction services
  • Perform weekly personnel office moves and customer move/disposal requests
  • Safely move goods on pallets, furniture, machinery, or equipment around facility
  • Empty, replace and maneuver dumpsters as needed
  • Respond effectively to all emergencies and comply with safety procedures
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment
  • Conduct assigned facility and equipment inspections
  • Maintain compliance with State, County, or City ordinances, codes, or laws
  • Document work performance and materials procurement as directed

Required Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • 5+ years of Hazardous Materials shipping experience required
  • Certified in D.O.T. 49 CFR Department of Transportation and I.A.T.A. International Air Transport Association regulations
  • Valid driver's license and ability to complete appropriate vehicle training
  • 3+ years of relevant forklift operator experience with valid OSHA certification
  • Ability to lift 60 lbs. repeatedly and perform physical job requirements safely
  • Excellent customer service skills and attention to detail
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills and ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Ability to multitask and maintain professionalism under stressful situations
  • Ability to detect emergency alarms (auditory and/or visual)
  • Ability to frequently walk up and down stairs for inspections and emergency procedures
  • The position may require working with chemical and biological agents that may be hazardous to health if mishandled (including agents which may potentially affect reproductive health and/or development of the fetus). Employees must follow all safety procedures and use personal protective clothing/equipment as provided by the company where specified.
  • Must be able to adequately perform required job functions including lifting, bending, and moving in a safe and approved manner. Must be able to operate required equipment safely and in an approved manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one year working in Biopharma, Pharmaceutical, or similar industry preferred

Estimated total compensation for this position:

54,600.00 – 56,511.00 USD per year

The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data .
