About the Role

The Walt Disney Company is seeking a skilled and motivated Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) to join its central Database Systems Engineering team. This team supports critical data services and platforms across Disney Enterprise Technologies, corporate development teams, and internal customers.

In this role, you will ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of relational database systems across both on-premise and cloud environments. You’ll work with a diverse set of technologies and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support Disney’s global operations and digital experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and administer enterprise relational database systems including Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and AWS-hosted services such as RDS and Aurora.

  • Optimise database and application query performance across environments.

  • Automate operational tasks such as backups, restores, and patching using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or Chef.

  • Collaborate with application developers, DevOps engineers, and cloud architects to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.

  • Troubleshoot complex database and system-level issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.

  • Contribute to disaster recovery planning and high-availability architectures to protect critical systems.

  • Use Git or equivalent source control tools to manage version-controlled infrastructure and database code.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation and architecture diagrams to support system clarity and knowledge sharing.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of experience managing relational database platforms including Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and AWS-hosted services (RDS, Aurora).

  • Proficiency in at least one programming/scripting language such as Python, Go, Ruby, or Java.

  • Strong understanding of networking protocols and technologies including HTTP, TLS, SSH, and DNS.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and configuration management tools.

  • Hands-on experience with container technologies (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, Mesos, DockerEE).

  • Proven troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data platforms and warehouses such as Snowflake, MongoDB, and Cassandra.

  • Ability to produce detailed system documentation and architecture diagrams.

  • Customer-focused mindset with the ability to align technical solutions with business needs.

  • Exposure to log management and monitoring platforms such as Splunk.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience.

As part of our Enterprise Technology team, you’ll help build and maintain the data infrastructure that supports our iconic brands and global operations.
