Job Description:

The Software Engineer II performs activities developing components of solutions with a focus on analytics, support, testing, and proof of concepts aligned to business and technology objectives on Mainframe Enhancement and digital Modernization. 

Provides a broad range of system solutions development to business problems through the development and programming of applications / systems. May also provide research, installation, maintenance, configuration, administration and/or provisioning of systems/applications.

Depth & Scope:

  • Advanced knowledge of specific domain or range of engineering frameworks, technology, tools, processes and procedures, as well as organization issues
  • Performs complex to difficult technical tasks independently
  • Advanced knowledge of technology, tools, various programming languages, processes, and procedures
  • Develops program specifications; adapts, integrates, codes, tests and debugs programs; and is responsible for executing
  • Uses existing procedures to solve routine problems; makes limited exceptions

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree, Postgraduate degree or Technical Certificate
  • Strong academic background (e.g., computer science, engineering)
  • 3-5 years relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Extensive experience mainframe skills with the following:
    • COBOL, JCL, IMS DC/DB and or DB2, VSAM, TSO, ISPF
    • Job scheduling tools (any of): CA-7, Autosys, AWF
    • Source Control (any of): Endevor, SCM, Changeman, GIT
    • Mainframe modernization utilities: z/OS Connect, VS code, ZOWE, IDz, ZDT, ADDI, PD tool, IMS Explorer for Development
    • Agile experience
    • ITSM tools: Jira, Confluence and Service Now
  • Nice to have:
    • Banking Industry preferred, SAS, API, MS Azure Cloud Computing, Running Docker containers, file transfer eg: TIBCO or NDM, ITIL Framework, MQ
  • Ability to act as a lead technical development expert and subject matter expert for a business application or a specific technology
  • Ability to code, debug, research, analyze and problem-solve development and system issues
  • Advanced and extensive knowledge of the business (or organization), technical environment, standards, processes, procedures, programming languages and operating systems
  • Highly organized and self-motivated with ability to work independently as well as within a team and with internal business and technology partners at all levels of the organization
  • Readiness and motivation (as senior or lead developer and valued subject matter expert) to address and resolve highly complex and multifaceted development-related issues, often independently
  • General knowledge in infrastructure between distributed and mainframe platforms
  • Proven track record mentoring and providing technical guidance to others
  • Extensive knowledge of the business, technical environment, standards, processes, procedures, programming languages and operating systems
