Job Objective:
Provide drilling supervisor functions ensuring application of sound drilling, well control, and safety principles. Mentor and train well site personnel. Hold drilling and other contractors accountable for operational and safety performance. Develop and implement safety and operational performance initiatives. Develop and implement safety culture. This is a contract, Texas/New Mexico based position.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Safety Leadership: Enforce all company and regulatory Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards. Actively promote a culture of safety, conduct regular safety meetings, and oversee Rig-site Risk Assessments (JSA/JHA).
  • Operational Oversight: Manage all daily drilling operations, including drilling, casing, cementing, tripping, and well control operations.
  • Plan Implementation: Ensure the drilling program is followed; review and approve changes to the program in coordination with engineering teams, suggest optimizations if necessary for safety or efficiency.
  • Contractor Management: Assess contractor safety and performance.  Provide feedback to drilling group.  Hold contractors accountable.  Ensure compliance with contracts and safety culture standards.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify operational problems (e.g., stuck pipe, lost circulation) and provide immediate technical solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit accurate Daily Drilling Reports (Wellview), casing/cementing reports, tallies, and end-of-well summaries.
  • Well Control: Ensure all well control equipment is fully operational, certified, and capable of maintaining pressure integrity at all times.  Ensure contractor personnel are adequately trained and demonstrate proficiency at kick detection and well control methodology.
  • Logistics Coordination: Plan and coordinate the timely arrival of personnel, tools, and equipment to the rig.
  • Develop and implement operational and safety performance initiatives.  Build safety culture, identify and communicate gaps to drilling management team.
  • Develop cost reduction initiatives.
  • Lead incident investigations.
  • Steward safety incentive program.
  • Conduct rig audits / inspections.  Ensure deficiencies corrected efficiently.
  • Ensure company owned material transfer system followed appropriately across the company.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years minimum drilling and well site supervision
  • Ability to accurately solve problems and exceptional at seeking out information
  • Ability to be available 24 hours per day (on call for questions, emergencies, etc.).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public.
  • Self-starter with proven leadership skills, team player, and comfortable working under pressure.
  • Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities.
  • Exceptional knowledge of daily drilling rig operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with specific ability to translate technical information into clear & concise steps
  • Outstanding administrative and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in the use and application of the following software is required: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Previous experience with daily report software such as WellView, WellEz or DIMS is preferred.
