About the role

The Actuarial Product Support & Implementation Team acts as a resource to multiple business functions, including teams within Product Management, IT, and Operations, providing specialized knowledge and expertise with a focus on systems calculations and policy values for annuity products.

The Associate Director will prioritize and coordinate the daily activities performed by the Actuarial Support & Implementation Team and collaborate with the Senior Director of the Actuarial Support Programming Team to ensure alignment. This is a high performing team of professionals with varying levels of experience with a mathematical and financial focus, actuarial experience and programming skills. This position assigns and monitors the daily work across a team of actuaries, analysts and programmers, such as: product implementation initiatives, system audits, daily production analysis of complex calculations, and real-time technical support for Operations/Business within Individual Retirement (“IR”) Product Management function. Additionally, this position will directly manage a group of Assistant Actuaries from the ADP program, ensuring continuity of production support during rotations.

A full-time schedule that requires work through 6:30pm Pacific Time.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leads and provides technical guidance to the Actuarial Support & Implementation Team. Prioritizes the work performed across multiple actuarial support functions, as well as the Actuarial Support Programming Team within IFPM.
  • Delivers accurate and timely actuarial support to internal business partners (e.g. Operations, IT, Product Management) related to policy value calculations, quotes, hypotheticals, and exceptions.
  • Serves as the primary actuarial resource to support timely resolution of issues reported via IRG (Issues Resolution Group).
  • Supports new product implementations and product enhancements through system testing for Navisys and OASys, illustrations, and other ancillary calculation tools. Ensures contractual features and calculation methodologies are thoroughly defined, documented, tested and implemented into the system business requirements and test plans.
  • Ensures internal actuarial system audit programs and validation tools are kept up to date, run efficiently and errors are reported timely.  Analyzes input and output for anomalies and communicates results to leadership team; contributes to decision-making based on outcomes.
  • Recommends enhancements to reporting, analytics and processes. Identifies, builds or executes data and/or analytical solutions to standardize and automate processes as a leader/participant on cross functional teams. Participates in discussions/analysis and provides guidance/advice regarding technical actuarial issues.

Qualifications/Skills/Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree and FSA/ASA with 7+ years of experience post ASA, preferably with a global bank or insurance company.
  • Proficient management, organization and prioritization skills to coordinate and oversee daily actuarial support activities.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills. Detail and process oriented.
  • Strong understanding and experience with financial mathematics.
  • Knowledge of fixed, index, variable and RILA products is preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with various levels of staff and leadership.
  • Work successfully with cross-functional collaborative teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with regression testing, trouble-shooting and analytical frameworks to monitor data quality with exposure to large scale systems in test and production environments. Ability to develop and manage disciplined processes.
  • Excellent computer skills, especially good understanding of database, software programming and presentation tools.
  • Works under pressure and within time constraints to effectively accomplish individual and team objectives.
  • Embraces change and quickly adapts to new methods and accountabilities. Finds creative solutions to standardize and automate processes.

For positions based in [Woodland Hills, CA, Jersey City, NJ] the base salary range is $126,000-$136,000 and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan. In addition, we’re proud to offer a range of competitive benefits.
