Anesthesia Technician - Pediatric Anesthesiology

Job Description:

Shift: Full-Time - 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM

General Description:

Under general supervision, performs maintenance and distribution of anesthesia equipment and supplies as requested by the anesthesiologist, anesthetist and other support staff in the operating rooms.
 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the daily inspection of anesthesia machines and equipment and devices to ensure cleanliness and operational readiness (i.e. fiberoptic bronchoscope, fluid warmers, anesthetic gas machine). 
  • Responsible for decontamination of anesthesia machines and sterilization of equipment and devices.  Assembles anesthesia equipment and sets up machines according to established protocol and age appropriate criteria on scheduled cases.
  • Assures OR is cleaned and stocked for use. 
  • Orders and stocks anesthesia medications and supplies; maintain adequate records of receipt and issuance of supplies and equipment.
  • Reviews stored medications and ensures expired medications are properly discarded.
  • Maintains adequate level of anesthesia gas; store and distribute cylinders.
  • Provides charged transport monitors for all patients.
  • Observes and reports equipment malfunctions or unsafe environment. 
  • Duties may vary based on assigned area and may include patient transport, assistance with difficult intubations and input on process improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: None

Experience: Six (6) months experience in surgical setting, medical supply or equipment inventory OR an equivalent combination of education and experience

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: BLS (American Heart Association) upon hire

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Knowledge of anesthesia methods and procedures in the operating room as it relates to supplies and equipment.  Knowledge of basic inventory control.  Good interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain a good working relationship with coworkers and staff.
