About the Role
The Stroke Consultant and Continuous Improvement Lead will provide specialist clinical expertise and leadership within the Stroke Service, contributing to excellence in patient care, education, research, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support the values, mission, and strategic priorities of St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.
• Deliver excellence in the clinical management and care of patients within the Stroke Service.
• Contribute to St Vincent’s teaching, research, and clinical governance programs.
• Provide specialist medical consultation to outpatient stroke clinics (Tuesday mornings and Friday afternoons) and, as required, to inpatients (e.g., code stroke attendance and leave cover).
• Coordinate the monthly Stroke Journal Club and prepare cases for the quarterly Stroke Mortality Meeting and bimonthly Stroke Interventional Neuroradiology Meeting.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives in consultation with the Stroke Head of Unit, including the delivery of the Code Stroke Simulation Training Program.
• Act as the clinical lead for protocol development, review, and implementation within the Stroke Unit.
• Participate in weekly Neuroradiology and Department meetings (Friday mornings) and contribute actively to Stroke Team meetings and tutorials.

Classifications for this position will be dependent on years of specialist experience


Your Contribution

• Appointees must be legally qualified medical practitioners, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
• FRACP with specialisation in Neurology (or equivalent)
• Indemnification with a recognised/approved medical defence association
• Compliance with RACP CPD program
• Current certification for National Institute of Health Stroke Score (NIHSS), modified Rankin Score (mRS) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
• Completion of Stroke Fellowship (or similar)

Clinical Neurosciences is a multidisciplinary unit dedicated to improving the understanding and treatment of neurological disorders. The unit provides a complete clinical and diagnostic service and maintains a strong research focus including epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, headache, neuromuscular conditions and movement disorders.
