Summary of Role:

Playing an essential role in GF’s IT technology transformation, the Enterprise R&D Architect will be based out in the US and will be responsible for overseeing Semiconductor R&D cloud architecture for GLOBALFOUNDRIES. This includes the ongoing development of GF’s cloud adoption technology strategy, optimization and operationalization of Tapeout and IP Design cloud services across IT business units and providing required architecture assistance to the various IT and Business Domains. The position requires and strong architectural knowledge of cloud platforms, including AWS and Azure, cloud security, microservices, EDA and HPC

Essential Responsibilities:       

  • Influence R&D cloud migration strategy and drive transformation: By partnering with business and IT leadership, and through the rationalization of R&D and IP design applications, the R&D cloud architect will provide strategic platform roadmaps to promote and maximize the value of cloud services via their creation, risk mitigation, integration, operation automation and governance.

  • Maximize value derived from cloud services: Foster value creation and waste reduction through the transformation of legacy R&D services to cloud native architecture

  • Enable effective platform cloud governance: Outline best practices for cloud solution design, system integrations, risk mitigation and application development practices and service management.

  • Secure cloud services: Aid in the analysis of cloud service security requirements and solutions for Tapeout and IP Design, working with the chief information security officer (CISO) and domain teams to ensure that cloud services are secure

  • Lead cloud R&D architecture collaboration: Collaborate with domain leaders, application and data architects, application developers, infrastructure and operations teams, as the lead Architect Cloud R&D center of excellence.

Other Responsibilities:

Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.


Required Qualifications:

  • Education: A bachelor's or higher degree in computer science, information systems or a related study.

  • Experience:

    • Proven experience as a Cloud Architect or similar role, with a focus on native cloud service transformation and microservice architecture.

    • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms including AWS and Azure

    • Experience with EDA tool and semiconductor/IP design on cloud

    • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Go.

    • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices.

    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

    • Strong communication and collaboration skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert).

  • Experience with serverless architectures and functions-as-a-service (FaaS).

  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools

  • Working knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing 

Expected Salary Range

$127,000.00 - $231,300.00
