The person in this role will work from the Medtronic facility located in Mounds View, Minnesota.
As the Software Engineering Manager of the Azure Platform & FinOps team, you will lead the Azure platform and FinOps strategy and execution across AWS, Azure, and Hybrid Cloud platforms. Your role is both technical and strategic: defining product roadmaps, guiding architecture decisions, ensuring financial accountability, and mentoring a global team of architects. You’ll partner with Business Units to modernize critical workloads, balance priorities, and deliver solutions that align with enterprise guardrails. Every day involves solving problems, re-using proven patterns, documenting and automating processes, and enabling the business to move faster and more securely.

- Develop the roadmap: Lead the strategy and execution for Azure cloud platform, setting the direction for design and engineering across the enterprise.
- Own the FinOps strategy and communication: ensure senior leadership has clear visibility into cloud spend, savings opportunities, and optimization initiatives.
- Drive migration initiatives: Partner with application owners, architects, and stakeholders to plan, coordinate, and execute workload modernization.
- Deliver in an agile fashion: Own the product backlog and roadmap for Azure platform, ensuring alignment with customer needs.
- Reuse architecture patterns, document solutions, and drive automation wherever possible to scale delivery across environments.
- Deliver accurate monthly FinOps reports with actionable insights on spend and savings.
- Lead quarterly FinOps reviews with customers and stakeholders to drive transparency and accountability.
- Partner with Finance, Procurement, and Business Units to forecast spend and recover costs effectively.
- Champion a culture of cost awareness, efficiency, and optimization across engineering teams.
- Lead and mentor a global team of highly skilled Public Cloud Architects and Engineers.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning across onshore and offshore teams.
- Work with Talent Development partners to create clear career paths and growth opportunities for staff.
- Provide coaching, technical leadership, and performance feedback to support high-performing teams.
- Partner with Business Units to co-create roadmaps and deliver solutions that meet both business needs and enterprise guardrails.
- Act as the primary point of engagement for senior leaders and application teams, ensuring alignment between strategy, design patterns, and execution.
- Drive change management and clear communication to enable smooth adoption of cloud capabilities.
- Build trust with stakeholders by delivering reusable patterns, documented solutions, and timely outcomes
MUST HAVE (Minimum Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 3+ years of experience with an advanced degree
NICE TO HAVE (Preferred Qualifications)
- Strongly Preferred:
- 5+ years of experience working with public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP)
- 2+ years of experience with FinOps practices
- Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-Code tools
- Experience with Gitlab or other git-based tools
- Certification(s) in AWS (Solutions Architect Professional), Azure (Solutions Architect Expert), or FinOps (FOCP).
- Experience building or leading enterprise FinOps practices, including showback/chargeback models.
- Experience with Atlassian Jira managing sprints and product backlogs
- Hands-on experience with automation, infrastructure-as-code, or container platforms
- Experience with PowerBI
- Experience integrating cloud platforms with enterprise security, compliance, and data privacy requirements.
- Proven track record influencing executive leadership with compelling financial or architectural storytelling.
- Background in vendor management, contract negotiation, or cloud cost optimization with major providers.
- Experience supporting or enabling advanced analytics, AI/ML, or GenAI workloads on cloud platforms.
- Strong understanding of ITIL/Agile frameworks and how they apply to platform engineering.
- Prior leadership in global, matrixed organizations with onshore/offshore team structures.
- Experience collaborating with or mentoring global/offshore teams.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and change management skills.
- Experience supporting infrastructure and operations for predictive analytics, AI/ML, or automation in IT delivery.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$150,400.00 - $225,600.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
