Position Summary:

Senior leader overseeing a 6-8 person team supporting some of Arch’s most interesting and complicated products: Travel Insurance, Lender Collateral Protection, Debt Protection, Services Contracts and Consumer Warranties.

This position is part of the leadership team and requires unusually strong skills in advanced actuarial theory, data and technology, creativity, business acumen and communication skills.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Pricing large deals: Partner with underwriters to customize structure, coverage, and price.
  • Portfolio analysis and segmentation: Assess and monitor performance; report key metrics; identify pockets performing differently among unusually specialized deals; improve actuarial assumptions and techniques.
  • Technology and Data: Create actuarial data products to enable efficiency; advanced actuarial analyses including predictive modeling and econometric variables on relatively large and complex data.
  • Product Development: Create and optimize complicated insurance products, including design and filing strategy.
  • Team leadership: Lead a large and varied team with strong teaching, project management and develop future actuarial leaders. Build strong relationships and become a trusted partner to internal and external partners.
  • Department leadership: Set a positive example to our department as part of the actuarial senior leadership team.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Vice Presidents generally are FCAS with significant and broad industry experience with demonstrated success.
  • Ability to independently turn problems into solutions, and partner with business unit executives.
  • Demonstrated success learning and positively impacting specialty insurance products like Travel or Lenders.
  • A strong mix of skills in actuarial theory, technology and data, large deal pricing and team leadership.
  • Leadership and management: Strong teacher, teammate, project manager, people manager and dept. leader.
  • Entrepreneurial skills: building new and innovative underwriting tools and advanced research projects.
  • Superior communication skills are important for partnering with underwriters and presenting to business leaders.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

For NYC, JC: $225,000 - $275,00/year
For Chicago, Hartford, St. Paul: $200,000 - $250,000/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
