The opportunity 

Our Manufacturing Engineer takes a demanding set of functions and turns them into the optics technology that makes the magic work. They monitor and control eyepieces, fabrication, and product performance for continuous improvement. In addition, they will manage tool productivity, set maintenance plans, and yields, conduct data analysis to improve processes, and manage quality measurement for their tool/process.

In this role, you will work closely with Quality and R&D engineers to improve product yield and troubleshoot process flow, from root causes to equipment tuning. In addition, Manufacturing Engineers own and lead the stability, improvement, and performance functions of the tools. They drive continuous improvement in the tool/process to meet customer satisfaction and the requirements of the manufacturing ramp.

Location: This position requires being fully on-site at our Plantation, FL (HQ) facility, to ensure seamless collaboration and hands-on support for daily operations. Relocation assistance is available for non-local candidates.

What you’ll do 

  • Optimize Manufacturing Processes – Sustain and enhance newly developed processes to improve efficiency, quality, and reliability.
  • Technical Leadership & Training – Guide and mentor technicians and engineers in troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and qualifications.
  • Root Cause Analysis – Perform complex data-driven analysis (DOE, ANOVA, Ishikawa, etc.) to drive improvements in safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Machine Qualification & Process Control – Lead qualification activities (MSA, Cp/Cpk, GR&R) to ensure process stability and repeatability.
  • Production Optimization – Conduct line balancing and workflow assessments to reduce bottlenecks and enhance productivity.
  • Predictive Maintenance & Real-Time Control – Analyze equipment data to develop proactive maintenance strategies and improve process stability.
  • Lean & Six Sigma Initiatives – Act as a Lean Six Sigma coach, facilitating Kaizen events and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Process Troubleshooting & Improvement – Identify and resolve process deviations and equipment failures through data analysis and problem-solving.
  • Collaboration & Innovation – Partner with vendors and R&D teams to implement automation, process standardization, and industry best practices.
  • Documentation & Compliance – Develop SOPs and work instructions in alignment with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

The experience you bring

  • Minimum 5 years of experience, preferably as a Manufacturing Engineer in a high-volume, automated environment.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or higher, with a strong understanding of DMAIC, 4M Analysis, and statistical process control.
  • Proficiency in process measurement and performance analysis tools (OEE, Cp, Cpk, Ppk, GR&R).
  • Ability to create and edit manufacturing layouts in AutoCAD and interpret schematics effectively.
  • Strong troubleshooting capabilities using engineering analysis tools and methodologies.
  • Proficient in CAD, scheduling software, issue tracking, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, JMP).
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and make data-driven decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable handling multiple projects in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional and multicultural teams.
  • Eager to learn and apply new skills to improve processes and stay ahead of industry advancements.

It’s exciting if you also have

  • Hands-on experience with cleanroom environments, optics, semiconductor materials, and characterization; experience in Wet Cleans or Lithography is a plus.
  • Strong background in PLC programming, including ladder logic, with fluency in programming and troubleshooting.
  • Skilled in diagnosing and resolving issues in PLCs, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of servo and stepper motors, as well as AC drive systems.
  • Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, including PTC Creo.

  • Flexibility for travel as needed (approximately 10%)

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location. In addition to salary, Magic Leap offers a discretionary bonus, equity, and a fully comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees.
