Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for a Database Administration/Analyst I or II to join our Information Technology team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. While this position is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote. What does a Database Administration/Analyst I or II do for us?
Under supervision, Database Administrators analyze, install, configure, upgrade, document, monitor and maintain database management system software in support of business processing requirements. Supported systems may include Microsoft Azure, or Microsoft SQL Server, with knowledge of operating systems, business applications, security tools, monitoring tools, web servers, application servers, integration servers, and other departmental or enterprise applications or systems. They perform database administration functions for assigned applications to ensure supported systems are reliable, efficiently maintained, and available to support customer productivity. They also provide technical support for problems not resolved by the IT Operations Center or IT Service Desk.

In addition to the duties listed above, a Database Administration Analyst II provides highest level technical support for database related issues. They assist in evaluating and finding root cause of system and integration issues. They are responsible for installing, upgrading, monitoring, tuning, documenting, and maintaining database management system software and application software in accordance with established IT policies and procedures, and may participate in installation or upgrade projects or teams. They prepare necessary written and oral reports, summaries, forms, dashboards, and documentation covering various products' software and operation from samples, studies, statistics, and outside resources. They identify and document activities to be monitored and responded to by the Integrated Operations Center. They also consult as a Subject Matter Expert with business units and other IT organizations with planning, designing, and configuring of complex IT solutions.

Database Administration/Analyst II adds:

  • Cyber-security principles and implementation

Skills in:

  • Server and database performance and health monitoring

Database Administration/Analyst II adds:

  • Automating and documenting routine tasks to pass to front-line support

Ability to:

  • Respond quickly and independently to incidents and issues
  • Communicate effectively with users of varying skill and knowledge levels
  • Communicate incident information with the Service Desk
  • Resolve incidents in support of SLAs
  • Attend Change Management meetings as needed
  • Document incident details and resolutions

Database Administration/Analyst II adds:

  • Adapt to changing business needs and operational structures
  • Mentor others and act as SME for Database architecture, management, and projects


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Database Administration/Analyst I

Education:

  • Associate's Degree in a related field

OR

  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Business, or a related field

Experience:

  • 2 or more years of IT experience

Preferred:

  • 4 or more years of IT experience

Database Administration/Analyst II

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Information Systems

OR

  • An equivalent field, or a combination of relevant education and experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related field

Experience:

  • 5 or more years of professional IT experience

Preferred:

  • 8 or more years of experience in a corporate multi-platform IT environment


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position. The ability to work evenings and weekends on rotation.
