KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Reviews patient medical records for inpatient accounts.
2. Assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD 10 PCS procedure codes, when applicable, to all accounts, and sequences as outlined in the ICD Official Coding Guidelines, Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS), CPT/HCPCS Guidelines, and other regulatory requirements.
3. Communicates with providers and other clinical team members to obtain additional information, diagnoses specificity, or documentation needed to accurately assign codes.
4. Manages follow up work queues to ensure timely coding completion.
5. Participates in ongoing education for ICD-10 updates, other educational opportunities and regulatory/compliance updates. Keep up-to-date with AHA Coding Clinic publications.
6. Utilize 3M 360 encoder.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or GED
• Two years of hospital day inpatient coding experience.
• Diploma/certificate in coding: CCS (Certified Coding Specialist, (AHIMA), or COC (Certified Outpatient Coder), (AAPC), or CIC (Certified Inpatient Coder), (AAPC) Or: RHIT (Registered Health Information Technologist) (AHIMA)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance
• Job classification is not exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Normally works in climate controlled office environment - this position is for remote/at home coding
• Frequent sitting with movement throughout office space
• Use of computers throughout the work day
• Frequent use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and fingers
Hours can be flexible between 7-3:30pm or 8-4:30pm M-F.
