Salary/Grade: £59,952 + per annum dependent upon experience 

Location: Peterborough

About IPSD

Job Summary 

The Performance Development Engineering function, with teams in the UK, China and India have responsibility for developing, calibrating and certifying the engine performance characteristics across the 0.5 to 7.1 litre engine range.  

 

Reporting to the Platform technical team leader in the UK, this is a great career opportunity to be part of a technical team with accountability for Performance Development Engineering development programs and technical leadership on our newest engine platform from concept through to production.  

What You Will Do 

  • Collaborate with customers, process partners and leadership to scope and execute projects that meet the needs of the business  

  • Accountable for delivering timely, high-quality development plans and data analysis to optimise, calibrate and certify product, providing clear recommendations to stakeholders  

  • Partner with design, systems engineering and our product group to robustly deliver new products and improve development processes  

  • Keep up-to-date on new technologies and drive continuous improvement to established techniques  

 

Within this role you will provide technical and project leadership in equal measure, you will be an integral part of the Virtual Platform Team (VPT) and represent the new platform Performance group in regular forums. You will be collaborating closely with other functional leads across Engineering to support complex work requests and communicate on progress or issues arising from the engine testing in our Europe Research Development Centre (ERDC).  

Key relationships will not only be built within the team but also with the Performance System Integration (PSI) group to ensure robust test requirements are defined and delivered as well as with the new platform Product Group to maintain focus on key NPI gateways and deliverables.  

You will develop increased technical breadth and depth, as well as gaining increased business management skills.  Additional key skills at this level include development of acceptance criteria, new product introduction process, practical application of theory, ability to select appropriate tools and methodologies, manufacturing and quality processes and communication skills.   

Later you will have the opportunity of guiding a team of engineers with the goal of delivering multiple engine calibrations through concept design and into production intent offerings. Mentoring and coaching of the team will be a key part of the role, working with the Engineering Manager to identify and execute professional development opportunities.  

 

Specific Responsibilities: 

  • New Product Introduction (NPI) Design Review / Gate Way representation 

  • Coaching and support for engine control strategies and the development approaches required to effectively optimise them  

  • Utilising project management techniques  

  • Product readiness for Prototype/Pilot/Production  

  • Leading complex engine development projects  

  • Leading product development processes and methods of robust data analysis techniques  

  • Peer review of development sign off data / documentation/approval  

 

What You Have

  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. 

  • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives. 

  • Engaging communicator: Able to replay technical and complex development program updates with the wider business  

  • Accredited engineering degree or a closely related technical discipline
