POSITION SUMMARY:

MPC has an opportunity for a Senior Accountant. The Cost of Sales and Refining & Marketing (R&M) Reporting group is a part of the Controller’s organization. Members of the team support critical internal and external reporting requirements for the R&M and Renewable Diesel segments. A motivated individual with strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills is essential. The successful candidate should be proficient with SAP and Excel. RightAngle knowledge is preferred but not required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collects, compiles, analyzes, and verifies financial and other data to ensure the integrity of accounting records. Investigates and resolves discrepancies of RightAngle and SAP data.
  • Prepare schedules in support of financial statements and related disclosures. Duties may include: 1) Cost of Sales margin schedules for select MPC refineries 2) R&M Reporting schedules for select business units and 3) Various monthly statistical and analytical reports.
  • Creates and records journal entries and other transactions, maintains general ledger, and reconciles accounts.
  • Supports Business Planning & Analysis team and assists with analytics on actuals and reporting requests.
  • Identifies efficiency gaps and recommends ways to improve processes and standards.
  • Ensures the integrity of financial transactions with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supports accounting processes through managing and prioritizing business requirements, system enhancements, and/or accounting standards.
  • Ensures successful completion of internal and external audits.
  • Ensures proper execution of controls and performance, documentation, and retention in accordance with accounting policy.
  • Displays advanced ability to utilize systems/tools, which may include, but not limited to, Excel, SAP/Business Warehouse, and Right Angle.
  • Participates in the testing and documentation of system enhancements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required. Accounting degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of accounting or related experience required.
  • SAP experience required
  • RightAngle experience preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with a system-oriented mindset
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
