A Regional Director acts with higher levels of underwriting authority than the field underwriters, expertly applies and manages the adherence of all appropriate Underwriting guidelines when making decisions. They focus on territory performance from both a profit and growth standpoint and partner with the Regional Sales Executive and Product Management Team to drive territory performance. Must be professionally demanding, demonstrates advanced level underwriting acumen and superior risk decision-making. Requires being a leader within the organization, who coaches and mentors underwriters at all levels, leads and manages change, drives continuous improvement, and leads innovation through change management. This leader will be responsible for the Phoenix territory.

Agency Sales/Territory Management:
Build strong, distinctive strategic partnerships with key agents and brokers. Develop and implement segment sales plans. Maintain insight into competitors' strengths, weaknesses and strategies to leverage for profitable business and increased agency penetration.

People Leadership and Development:
Attract, select and develop high caliber talent from within or outside of the organization. Ensure staff continuity for key positions by anticipating and planning for future staffing needs. Effectively manage staff through active performance management, implementation of a meaningful development process; build a strong team which fosters collaboration, open dialogue and involve them in critical decision making and planning activities.

Underwriting Operations:
Ensure that underwriting practices and guidelines are understood and adhered to, specifically focusing upon pricing, risk selection, mix of business, flow management and quality analysis. Utilize quality and referral programs to identify opportunities to develop staff to ensure functional and regulatory integrity of the book of business and overall compliance with middle market segment guidelines.

Planning and Monitoring Results:
Work closely with the Regional Sales Executive and Product Management to develop strategic and operating plans, which leverage agent/broker relationships and positions The Hartford to profitably grow within the territory. Closely manage plan results and direct implementation of specific actions to address financial shortfalls.


• Solid financial/business acumen skills

• Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced degree and/or relevant industry designation (i.e.) CPCU, ARM or equivalent in experience
• 5+ years commercial P&C multi-line underwriting preferred
• Broad business acumen; Strong financial acumen and analytical skills
• Strong customer service skills; Highly professional
• Proven leadership, negotiation and influencing Skills
• Proven progressive career track record.
• Strong organizing and planning skills; Able to optimize direct resources and influence business partnerships in order to drive results
• A consistent high level of performance over the career span

This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates hybrid to the Scottsdale, AZ office are highly preferred.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$105,680 - $158,520

The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
