Job Description:

The Financial Restructuring Group ("FRG"), part of the Business Bank, is a centre of expertise that manages higher-risk Business Banking relationships.

FRG's Mandate:

  • To help the Business Bank achieve its market share objectives by restructuring and retaining good quality Business Banking clients.

  • To help build Better Business Bankers through sharing knowledge derived from managing higher risk clients.

  • To contribute to Business Banking’s economic profit by maximizing recovery of funds and meeting pricing objectives.

FRG’s Mandate is accomplished by retaining client relationships, sharing knowledge, and contributing to the Business Bank's economic profit.

Job Description:

  • The Director, Financial Restructuring Group assists financially troubled companies, where possible, to restructure so that they remain both viable and long-term customers of the Bank, optimizes loan recovery when restructuring is unlikely and protects the TD Brand at all times.

  • The Director is responsible for managing a portfolio of large classified accounts (> $15MM CDN), as well as complex loans (including cash flow loans) of any size from across the country and all syndicated deals.

  • In addition to managing a portfolio of accounts, the Director also provides coverage to designated "Shadow" accounts domiciled within Business Banking. In these instances, FRG acts an internal advisor to the Business Banking segment relationship team.

  • The position works closely with the Business Banking network, internal partners such as Commercial Credit Risk Management, TDS Agency, and with external professionals including legal counsel, accountants/monitors, receivers and trustees.

  • The position reports to the Vice President, Financial Restructuring Group.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Ensure credit risk is properly assessed by performing independent risk analysis and by applying the policies & lending guidelines of the Bank

  • Develop creative solutions to minimize risk and, wherever possible, provide support and flexibility to the client during the restructuring period

  • Protect the Bank’s assets by managing/using adequate risk monitoring systems and processes and by evaluating each account’s performance as it relates to the assessment and management of credit risk

  • Provide timely responses to clients

  • Responsible for managing an Associate Director &/or CSO

  • Ensures credit submissions by the Associate Director are clear, concise, and meet required policies and standards.

  • Establish loan pricing/ fees commensurate with the risk profile of the account

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with various professional firms

  • Act as a reference point to others in areas of personal expertise

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and contribute to a positive work environment

Job Requirements:

  • 7 years + business financial commercial credit experience in order to assess risk; seek and develop creative solutions to resolve problems

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Finance

  • Superior client relationship skills: the ability to listen and to understand client needs & challenges and to recognize relationship opportunities

  • Collaborates with and involves key internal/external stakeholders; builds consensus.  Professionally and respectfully deals with customers; considers diversity of viewpoints to be important and interacts well with diverse people and groups; ability to defuse high-tension situations

  • Understands and has experience lending to large companies having complex operations &/or capital structures within syndicated credit agreements

  • Keeps current on latest trends through a variety of information sources, constructively challenges conventional ideas/approaches, generates new ideas/approaches

  • Works diligently to build and maintain long-term relationships with the clients; demonstrates diplomacy, tact and respect in dealing with the client

  • Participates in associations as a source of networking and to expand areas of expertise
