Who We Are & What You’ll Do

Since opening on Feb. 28, 1995, Denver International Airport (DEN) has become one of the world’s busiest airports. In 2025, 82,427,962 passengers passed through DEN, making DEN 4th busiest airport in the U.S. and the world’s 10th busiest airport. DEN is Colorado’s primary economic engine, generating $47.2 billion in annual economic impact for the state. At DEN, we are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace. We celebrate individuality and strive to keep Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility (EDIA) at the center of all that we do.

Through the DEN Intern (nicknamed “DENtern”) Program, students gain real world experience in aviation and workforce development while building professional skills. DENterns participate in a cohort-based model that emphasizes networking, collaboration, and professional growth, attending all scheduled professional development sessions, tours, and engaging in impactful projects across the airport.

DEN’s Fiscal Policy team is actively seeking an Airport Finance DENtern to contribute to their division. As part of DEN's Strategic Plan, Vision 100, which envisions reaching 100 million annual passengers, Fiscal Policy plays a pivotal role in leading DEN toward responsible growth and transformation.

The Fiscal Policy group leads DEN’s efforts to maintain strong fiscal discipline through operations and maintenance budgeting, capital planning, rates and charges development, revenue management, reporting, and other financial activities. As one of the only groups that oversees all aspects of DEN’s operation, you will have the unique opportunity to gain exposure to a myriad of DEN functional areas, as understood through the eyes of DEN’s financial data.

As an Airport Finance DENtern, you will work on projects such as, but not limited to:

  • Project #1: Supporting DEN’s annual mid-year rates and charges analysis

    • Support all aspects of the analysis, which involves gathering data, inputting into the rates and charges model, defining assumptions, working on the model, preparing output for airline consumption.

  • Project #2: Annual Budget Book Preparation

    • Lead the effort with the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Budget team to produce DEN’s budget book, which involves careful analysis of DEN’s budget information.

    • Create a narrative from that information that helps convey how DEN’s budget supports its goals and fits into the goals for the City and County of Denver.

  • Project #3: Indirect Cost Allocation Study

    • Support effort to reassess DEN’s cost allocation methodology from indirect cost centers to direct cost centers for rates and charges purposes, which will involve a detailed assessment of DEN’s historical expenses to assess how expenses should be allocated.

  • Project #4: Grant Research and Support

    • Support the grants team by helping DEN successfully apply for valuable grant dollars that will support key capital projects.

  • Project #5: Q2 Financial Reporting

    • Assist in the preparation of DEN’s Q2 financial reporting including the FAA Part 126/127 Annual Disclosure Statement. This involves analyzing a wide variety of data points to extract key insights that will be shared with senior leadership, reconciling data to ensure all information is being presented accurately, and collaborating with finance colleagues to produce a clear and accurate report.

  • Project # 6: Aviation Megatrend Research

    • Collaborate with a team of fellow DENterns to conduct discovery research on a key aviation megatrend. This includes gathering data, interviewing industry experts, and analyzing findings. At the end of the summer, your team will present insights to DEN’s executive leadership to help shape strategic innovation and prepare the airport for the future.
