Key Position Details:

  • 1.0 FTE (80 hours per 2-week pay period)
  • 8-hour day/evening shifts
  • Weekends per department rotation

Job Description:

The perioperative assistant aides in the provision of indirect and direct patient care within the surgical services department. Job responsibilities include assisting in operating room turnovers, anesthesia room turnovers, and ensuring proper supply par levels throughout the surgical services department. The perioperative aid also assists in surgical services by providing specimen drop off, immediate supplies, safe patient transport or moving, and other delegated tasks in collaboration with the operating room team.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Takes direction from Registered Nurse or supervisor for direct and indirect patient care
    • Cleaning/stocking, room turnover, transporting of patients.
    • Obtains and delivers items as requested including equipment, instruments, specimens and other lab requests.
    • Completes preoperative skin preparation according to department guidelines.
  • Participates in team communication and collaboration
    • Communicates ideas and opportunities for improvement.
    • Serves as mentor and resource to new staff in Perioperative Assistant role.
    • Reports safety issues or concerns to supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Vocational or Technical Training in Surgical Technology, Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant, or surgical setting work experience
  • 0 to 2 years in surgical setting


Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year in a surgical setting


Licenses/Certifications

  • BLS Tier 1 - Basic Life Support - Multisource required upon hire
