A Day in the Life

In this exciting role of Principal Medical Information Specialist, you will have an opportunity to provide technical and medical information to both external healthcare professionals and internal personnel, analyze and research inquiries and documents interactions according to organizational and regulatory guidelines.

The Endoscopy Operating Unit at Medtronic has created a business out of disrupting the status quo in the detection, prevention, and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers and chronic diseases. We’ve done this by commercializing transformational technologies that improve patient management and standards of care while increasing access to our innovations worldwide.

Location: Hybrid from Lafayette, CO or Mounds View, MN

This role does not have budget for relocation assistance

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Leverages medical/scientific expertise to address medical information (MI) inquiries from HCPs and internal personnel.
  • Maintain medical information documents and reports.
  • Demonstrates the ability to search, critically evaluate, and synthesize published medical and scientific literature, clinical study data, or other relevant data sources to address medical information inquiries.
  • Reviews scientific materials such as literature, abstracts, posters, manuscripts for publication, slides sets, and promotional materials for scientific content, off-label use considerations, claim substantiation, and fairness.
  • May author or contribute to research, writing, and editing of manuscripts, State of the Art assessments, and development of other scientific materials.
  • Collaborates and develops trusted relationships with key functions; drive and influence evidence-based scientific decision making across the matrix organization.
  • Actively supports compliance to Corporate Off-Label policies.

Required Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of experience in medical writing, clinical, medical affairs or research

OR

  • An advanced degree with 5+ years of experience in medical writing, clinical, medical affairs or research
     

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience in handling medical inquiries and communications, particularly within a healthcare or pharmaceutical setting
  • Proficiency in conducting comprehensive literature searches and reviews, with familiarity in using medical and scientific databases like PubMed
  • Proven ability to write and contribute to scientific manuscripts and literature reviews, demonstrating clarity, precision, and adherence to publication standards
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including R&D, regulatory, and clinical teams, to gather and synthesize information effectively
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate complex medical inquiries and provide accurate, evidence-based responses
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and internal stakeholders effectively
  • Understanding of medical device regulations and industry standards
  • Ability to manage multiple inquiries and projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and efficient responses
  • Advanced degree
  • Knowledge of endoscopy and gastrointestinal conditions, with exposure to related medical technologies

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$134,400.00 - $201,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
