Job Description:

BUILD SOMETHING BIGGER THAN YOURSELF

The Walt Disney Company, together with its subsidiaries and affiliates, is a leading diversified international family entertainment and media enterprise with the following business segments: Disney Entertainment, ESPN, Disney Parks, and Experiences and Products. From humble beginnings as a cartoon studio in the 1920s to its preeminent name in the entertainment industry today, Disney proudly continues its legacy of creating world-class stories and experiences for every member of the family. Disney’s stories, characters and experiences reach consumers and guests from every corner of the globe. With operations in more than 40 countries, our employees and cast members work together to create entertainment experiences that are both universally and locally cherished.

How will you contribute to our magical experience?

Department/Group Overview:

Content Platforms & Operations is responsible for the development and ongoing advancement of the technical and operational functions driving the worldwide distribution and monetization of Disney’s linear networks and theatrical content. This includes Disney’s media supply chain and storage, network and theatrical distribution operations, media localization, network transmission and origination, and more. The global team also plays a critical role as the primary collaboration point for Product & Technology with Disney’s EMEA, APAC, and LATAM regional business teams.

Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology

Technology is at the heart of Disney’s past, present, and future. Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is a global organization of engineers, product developers, designers, technologists, data scientists, and more – all working to build and advance the technological backbone for Disney’s media business globally.

The team marries technology with creativity to build world-class products, enhance storytelling, and drive velocity, innovation, and scalability for our businesses. We are Storytellers and Innovators. Creators and Builders. Entertainers and Engineers. We work with every part of The Walt Disney Company’s media portfolio to advance the technological foundation and consumer media touch points serving millions of people around the world.

Here are a few reasons why we think you’d love working here:

Building the future of Disney’s media: Our Technologists are designing and building the products and platforms that will power our media, advertising, and distribution businesses for years to come.

Reach, Scale & Impact: More than ever, Disney’s technology and products serve as a signature doorway for fans' connections with the company’s brands and stories. Disney+. Hulu. ESPN. ABC. ABC News…and many more. These products and brands – and the unmatched stories, storytellers, and events they carry – matter to millions of people globally.

Innovation: We develop and implement groundbreaking products and techniques that shape industry norms and solve complex and distinctive technical problems.

The Music Supply Chain fleet oversees products and optimizes workflows that enable users to manage both publishing and recorded music businesses—from acquisition and distribution to administration and monetization—leveraging analytics to drive data-informed decision making.

As a Software Engineer, you will play a meaningful role working across music supply chain applications, building and supporting capabilities, and taking ownership of the technical design and implementation of medium-sized projects and features.

This position might be a great fit if you:

  • Are a curious and efficient engineer who wants to help shape the direction of development and collaborate closely with some of the brightest minds in our organization.
  • Thrive in an agile, collaborative environment where teamwork and innovation are valued.

In this role, you will focus on the music integration workstream, working with data streams between our music metadata repertoire system and upstream/downstream applications. You will collaborate closely with multiple internal and external teams to enable robust data integration capabilities.

The Software Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Technical Expertise: Possesses working knowledge of technologies used by the organization and contributes to key areas. Capable of fixing medium-complexity bugs and implementing stories with some guidance. Familiar with team practices and applies them effectively. Technical contributions are consistent and reliable.
  • Influence and Leadership: Serves as a resource for less experienced engineers and begins mentoring in areas of expertise. Shares information and communicates blockers more effectively. Participates in team discussions and delivers feedback. Influence is growing within the team, though still developing leadership capabilities.
  • Ownership & Scope: Develops and tests features within existing systems and contributes to architectural direction. Breaks down features into tasks and participates in code reviews and planning. Decisions may influence the work of others. Scope includes small features and technical problem-solving within the team.
  • Impact: Impact is at the story level within assigned projects or products. May influence related services or components. Works within guidelines and policies to improve quality and delivery. Contributions begin to shape team outcomes and technical direction.

What we need from you to be part of this story:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in a software engineering role.
  • Strong expertise in SQL, including database objects, relational database concepts, stored procedures, query optimization, and data modeling.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Advanced level of English.
  • Proficient in Java and JVM languages, with hands-on experience in Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Integration, and other Spring frameworks.
  • Solid experience across the full software development lifecycle, including continuous integration, unit and integration testing, functional testing, code reviews, and documentation.
  • Experience designing, building, and integrating APIs.
  • Knowledge of OAuth, authentication, authorization, and access management.
  • Practical experience with AWS services such as S3, RDS, messaging, VPC, and related infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of data integration concepts and workflows.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture (EDA) and publish/subscribe messaging patterns (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, SNS).
  • Experience in monitoring and maintaining application health and performance.
  • Skilled in applying object-oriented and functional programming principles to solve real-world software engineering problems.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a team environment.
  • Effective time management, with the ability to break down complex problems into manageable tasks.
  • Familiarity and experience with Agile methodologies.
  • AWS (advanced cloud services and infrastructure management).
  • Kafka (real-time data streaming and event processing).
  • Apache Airflow (workflow orchestration and data pipeline management).
  • Databricks (data engineering, analytics, and machine learning workflows).
  • Snowflake (cloud data warehousing and analytics).
  • PostgreSQL (advanced database features and performance tuning).
  • Serverless computing (e.g., AWS Lambda or similar event-driven architectures).
