Under the dentist's supervision, the Dental Assistant will perform medical and administrative skills to dental staff and supporting patients. 

 

A caregiver in this position works days, from 7:30am—5:00pm. 


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Assist with performing assessments and treatments. 

  • Perform diagnostic radiographs. 

  • Obtain alginate impressions for diagnostic and/or intra-oral appliances. 

  • Perform administrative or clerical duties as assigned. 

  • Maintain dental equipment and medical supplies, including sterilizing instruments, reordering, stocking, cleaning and troubleshooting. 

  • Maintain examination areas. 

  • Work in clinical and operating room settings as needed. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED.  

  • Knowledge and understanding of the dental management of medically compromised patients to include cardiology, oncology, hematology, and infectious disease patients. 

  • State certified as a Dental Assistant Radiographer.  

  • Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) certification by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) must be obtained within one year of employment  

  • OR must hold a certification as a Certified Ohio Dental Assistant (CODA) administered by the Ohio Commission on Dental Assistant Certification (OCDAC).  

  • Basic Life Support (BLS). 

  • Specific certification required depends on the assigned area.  

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Two years of dental assisting experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to ambulate patients for x rays and to dental chair.

  • Dexterity sufficient to operate CRT/PC and other office equipment.

  • Ability to work while standing the majority of work day.

  • Requires frequent data entry, lifting patients, pushing/pulling over 75 pounds, sitting, squatting, standing and walking. 

  • Must possess manual dexterity to pass instrumentation, hand mix impression material and stone / plaster, use applicator gun to express impression gun, trimming casts as well as operate PC.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
