JOB DESCRIPTION

The Prepress Specialist is responsible for enabling design intent realization and ensures quality and consistent visual execution across all product forms and variants at FMOT. The Prepress Specialist prepares, controls, pre-flights, and processes the design files, converting and adjusting elements ‘live’ as needed to provide print ready digital files for flexography, digital, offset and gravure printing. In this role you are responsible for timely artwork delivery from the time it is received through inhouse proofing to delivery of final print ready files to the printer.

This role will closely partner with Design, Brand, the Design Intent Production and AW Flow teams. The Prepress Specialist effectively influences and advises design and commercial leaders on color direction applying the color choices ‘live’ with hard copy print proofs ensuring the most productive approach. In this role you develop and maintain direct and open communication with design agencies to ensure that the Design Intent files meet GDAFP standards.

This role requires fundamental understanding of artwork file construction combined with expertise in industry standard pre-press & printing design, brand identity, and design standards/guidelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver Design Intent Production important metrics on target: AW Color on Design Intent, On-Time Production, Qualitative In-Market Complaints, Quality Incident Rate
  • Analyze, convert, correct, and prepare Artwork/design files to be fit-for-use as per printing process on design intent.
  • Prepare color separations and printing tools.
  • Conduct pre-flight and color correct and retouch a wide variety of raster and vector files.
  • Manage color set-ups and ink manager in Adobe Illustrator.
  • Manage and implement changes when they occur.
  • Execute Quality Control Checks
  • Ensure print quality and design intent are intact.
  • Create, govern, and manage printer specifications database.
  • Troubleshoot and address/resolve file issues.
  • Create hard proofs for business alignment, making needed adjustments in response to feedback until final design intent execution is approved.
  • Discuss and propose realistic options for Design Intent execution.

Job Qualifications

  • Previous hands-on experience in pre-press and graphic production
  • Degree in Graphic Design or related field
  • Fluent in color management, understand principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of printing processes, their limitations.
  • Understand ICC profiles / printing tool making and color transformations.
  • Keen eye for color and layout (Munsell Test score of ‘Superior Discrimination’).
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Hands-on experience in artwork file breakdown into sub-components; in Preflight, how to read and apply, in trapping, bleed, and other process specific print ready file requirements and how to apply.
  • Understanding of spot colors and usage in prepress applications (+PantoneLive processes)
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Adobe Indesign.
  • Knowledge of GMG Colorproof, OpenColor and Colorserver and/or other prepress tools.
  • Must be able to check and maintain software, measurement devices and proofing systems.
  • Familiar with Enfocus Pitstop and Callus PDF Toolbox.
  • Understanding of brand equity, brand identity systems, production guidelines and how to translate design intent to packaging artwork.
