The Red Hat Enterprise Linux Engineering (RHEL) team is looking for a skilled and passionate Senior Manager with Linux experience. In this role you will be part of a team responsible for Red Hat’s open hybrid cloud architecture and strategy focussed on developing, deploying, integrating and validating RHEL workloads on multiple public clouds including AWS, GCP and Azure. You will work in an environment where diverse perspectives are invited, the best ideas are valued, and people feel empowered to contribute. You will work as part of a distributed scrum team in close collaboration and regular communication with product owners and other team members and upstream developers, and will be at the forefront of our most exciting new initiatives.


The Senior Manager, Engineering sets operational objectives for their teams, delegating tasks to ensure the successful achievement of medium-term goals.

This role is pivotal in translating strategic direction into tactical work and guiding engineering teams in resolving complex issues. The Senior Manager, Engineering is responsible for mentoring multiple teams and contributing to the department’s strategy and vision.

What you will do

  • Develop and manage medium-term objectives for multiple teams.
  • Translate strategy into tactical plans, driving successful execution.
  • Oversee multiple teams of managers and senior contributors, ensuring they meet operational goals.
  • Address and anticipate complex issues affecting teams across the engineering function.
  • Contribute to the broader organizational strategy by collaborating with senior leadership.

What you will bring

  • Experience as a technical manager, building and managing teams
  • Experience with open source software, Linux, containers, Kubernetes, or Red Hat OpenShift
  • Understanding of software and hardware performance testing and evaluation
  • The ability to understand technical requirements and communicate with authority at a technical level
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills with the ability to interact comfortably with other members of a large, geographically distributed team
  • Passion for open source software
  • Ability to communicate with peer managers from various teams to coordinate development and defect resolution efforts related to performance
  • Experience with agile development tools like Jira and Confluence is a plus
