We have a well-established global Marketing and Business Development (M&BD) team which supports the firm on a wide range of business development, client relationship management and reputational activities.
The team operates across several key areas including Clients and Sectors covering Sector M&BD and Client Development (where this role sits); Practice M&BD; Communications, which comprises Public Relations, Brand, Design, Events, Content and Digital; Operations and Systems, which manage strategic global pitches and operations; and Client and Market Solutions, a team dedicated to managing and driving forward firm-wide profile building initiatives and strategic growth opportunities.
Working Hours
35 hours per week, 9:30am to 5:30pm but additional hours may be required. We are happy to consider agile and flexible working patterns. Our approach to hybrid working allows for up to 40% of time working from home and 60% working in the office, please contact a member of the recruitment team to discuss further.
Role Overview
We need a self-motivated and enthusiastic Manager to support and drive global strategy for the M&BD activities for the Financial Institutions Sector (FIS), Digital Assets and Blockchain (DAB) and FinTech practices.
The role will work alongside the Financial Institutions Sector Head, Lead partner for Future of Finance, partner co-chairs for DAB, Global Heads for FinTech and Head of M&BD FIS.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a supportive and close-knit team, operating across a broad remit across new and emerging markets. You will play a critical role in supporting client development and profile-raising initiatives in the UK and international markets, to ensure we:
Deliver on the profile-raising initiatives and objectives laid out in the FIS, DAB and FinTech business plans.
Maximise our opportunities to grow our revenues from existing and prospective clients across the sector.
Raise the firm’s profile and position within our key markets.
Leverage and coordinate our people, knowledge and resources in an effective and efficient manner.
There will also be the opportunity to play an important role in driving FIS, including one of our transformative trends: Future of Digitalisation from an M&BD perspective, leading DAB and FinTech in particular. This role will help develop and shape the thinking and deliver in one of the fastest growing and most exciting sectors.
This candidate will work closely with other members of our global M&BD team to ensure that UK and international M&BD programmes support the firm and sector priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location or services. All members of the firm participate in our Responsible Business program.
M&BD Strategy and Budget
Working closely with the Head of M&BD FIS sector and the FIS core team to develop robust M&BD plans for the industry sector, in line with the group's overall business strategy and objectives.
Supporting on the implementation of M&BD plans, leveraging dedicated M&BD resource across the international network and regularly monitoring and reporting on progress.
Supporting to develop comprehensive budgets for the industry group and helping to actively manage budgets during the financial year, working closely with international colleagues.
Pitching, Targeting and New Business Generation
Managing responses to RFPs, customised pitches, and business development presentations across the DAB, FinTech and FIS sectors, coordinating with colleagues.
Developing strategy and action plans around specific client opportunities to broaden existing relationships and drive the development of new relationships.
Advising on new business opportunities, providing support on the development of our proposition, approach, team, and supporting materials.
Working with the DAB and FinTech team to develop strong standard credentials and off the shelf material regionally and globally to support client outreach.
Developing and promoting pitching best practice across the sector through a combination of coaching and formal training.
Preparing pitch teams for presentations and carrying out post-pitch reviews.
Ensuring there is a structured approach in place for maintaining up-to-date M&BD information and knowledge, such as credentials and pitches, and for sharing best practices across the group, including supporting in the roll out and embedding of the firm’s deal management system, Foundation.
Client Development
Following sector, practice, and regional trends to identify business opportunities relevant to growth initiatives to target new business and develop profile with key clients.
Developing client toolkits by working with the partners, Legal Tech and Alternative Delivery and Client Solutions teams to develop programmes and targeting initiatives to build relationships with new and existing clients, including identifying cross-selling opportunities for the FIS sector, regularly following-up with and encouraging partners in support of their business development efforts.
Leading strategy and coaching around specific client opportunities to broaden existing relationships and drive the development of new relationships.
Leading and driving growth for our FinTech Mentor Program, maintaining relationships with current and past members / clients, conducting client feedback reviews and organising events as necessary.
Marketing Campaigns, Thought Leadership and Profile Raising
Leading cross-practice specific events for FIS clients, showcasing the firm's work on FinTech, InsurTech and Digital Assets, in particular leading the delivery of our annual flagship Digital Assets Summit in London.
Liaising and collaborating with other M&BD teams including Practice Groups, Sector teams, Client Account Managers and PR to cross sell capabilities and credentials, including proactively coordinating with PR to raise the profile of individual partners and propositions.
Building and managing relationships with key industry bodies in the sector.
Leading the relationships and relationship management in sponsorship opportunities. This includes building the business case to secure sponsorship approval, and ensuring HL is engaged with relevant programmes.
Internal Communication and Knowledge Sharing
Working with the DAB and FinTech leadership teams to progress M&BD plans and supporting the team to coordinate and engage effectively with the wider sector.
Ensuring that there is an efficient framework for internal reporting and communication of M&BD activities and successes, including the provision of information for wider management reporting.
Working closely with the partners and knowledge lawyer team to leverage know how and promote sector capabilities across the firm, including through newsletters and the intranet.
Wider BD Projects
Working with the Lateral Recruiting team to support and integrate lateral DAB and FinTech partners and counsel.
Contributing to the firm strategic priorities and broader Future of Digitalisation efforts.
Overseeing and contributing to wider M&BD projects as required.
Skills & Experience
Experience
Strong previous experience of working in a marketing and business development focused role in a professional services firm.
Previous experience of practice or sector marketing, as well as an exposure to the world of financial services is preferred.
