Location: Belfast  

Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Salary up to £43,336.82 per annum, plus, company van & fuel card

42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.00am – 5.00pm

Mears provides temporary accommodation to asylum seekers whilst their claim is being assessed in three regions: Northeast, Yorkshire and Humber, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. At the end of May 2021 Mears had over 19000 service users across the three regions. Mears work in partnership with central and local Government, registered providers, tenants, landlords and investors to find solutions to homelessness, provide more social and affordable housing and create specialist housing for people with care needs.

We’re on the lookout for a talented and versatile Multi-Skilled Operative to join our team, supporting a busy repairs contract in Belfast. This is a dynamic, hands-on role where you’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality repairs and maintenance across a range of trades, ensuring residents’ homes are safe, functional, and well cared for as well as void properties ready for service user move ins.

With a strong pipeline of work and a commitment to improving housing standards, this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a team that’s making a real difference in the community. We’re looking for someone reliable, skilled across multiple trades, and passionate about getting the job done right the first time.

Duties:

  • Carry out day-to-day responsive repairs across occupied properties
  • Carry out compete property refurbishments for void properties ensuring they are ready for turnover 
  • Completing plumbing tasks including removing old shower trays, fitting and replacing baths and taps
  • Joinery duties include fitting doors, work tops and kitchen cupboards
  • Repairing or replacing internal doors, handles, locks, and hinges
  • Carrying out patch plastering and making good, damaged walls or ceilings
  • Completing wall and floor tiling repairs, including grouting and sealing
  • Painting and decorating to a professional finish following repair works
  • Ensuring all repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard
  • Working in occupied properties with sensitivity to residents’ needs and privacy
  • Participating in out-of-hours emergency repair rota as required which is 1 in 6 weeks, covering Monday to Monday
  • Reporting any further works, safeguarding concerns, or property issues beyond scope
  • Deliver excellent customer service while working in residents' homes
  • Accurately record job details, materials used, and completion notes using handheld devices or job sheets
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in good working order
  • Manage daily workload efficiently to meet service level targets

Role Criteria:

  • Experience in a core trade (Plumbing, Joinery, Plastering or Tiling)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Personable
  • Works well under pressure
  • Good time keeping
  • Full UK driving license
  • Ability to provide own hand tools including spirit level, screw drivers and hammers
  • Willingness to travel across Northern Ireland where required

To drive a Mears vehicle, you must be aged over 21 have held your licence over 3 months and have less than 9 points.

As part of the recruitment process for this role, we will carry out a Background, Identity, Security clearance & BPSS check. For these checks to be completed, we will require from you the relevant identification, including Proof of Address, References, a valid passport and proof that you have lived in the UK for the last 5 years.
