POSITION SUMMARY

Seeking an experienced insurance regulatory attorney.  This individual will provide legal advice and counsel in support of our growing insurance operations with an emphasis on regulatory, contractual and domestic compliance and regulatory matters.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Drafting of intercompany agreements
  • Preparation of regulatory filings including annual holding company filings and enterprise risk related filings
  • Support licensing and reporting requirements
  • Provide thoughtful guidance on regulatory and industry development, including the proactive identification and assessment of regulatory risks
  • Interact with domestic state regulators and government agencies
  • Support the department’s handling of regulatory matters, including information requests, auditors and/or investigations
  • Provide advice on issues relating to insurance producers and third-party administrators, including compliance with statutory requirements and best practices for outsourced insurer responsibilities
  • Conduct legal research and provide timely and accurate legal advice regarding state and federal insurance laws and regulations to internal clients
  • Assist in monitoring department of insurance actions (e.g., penalties, fines, bulletins, and department of insurance advisories) and apprise the appropriate internal business and support departments to ensure compliance
  • Engage in issue spotting, risk assessment, and problem solving on a daily basis
  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements appropriate to a variety of arrangements with producers and third parties
  • Manage miscellaneous corporate transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions, entity formation and due diligence

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated understanding of the insurance regulatory environment
  • Experience interfacing effectively with all levels of management and with both internal and external constituents. Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization
  • Highly organized, analytical, and detail-oriented

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and in good standing of the bar of any US jurisdiction
  • Attorney who has worked at least seven (7) years at a law firm or with an inhouse legal department managing litigation

For individuals assigned or hired to work in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Jersey City, NJ; New York State; and/or Washington State, the base salary range is listed below. This range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

$129,500 - $174,800/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs.  The above range may be modified in the future
