Position Summary
The Powertrain Sourcing Lead is responsible for independently developing and executing sourcing strategies for pistons, starters, and starter solenoids. This role leads supplier management activities that ensure alignment with Polaris’ priorities for delivery, quality, cost competitiveness, and new product integration. Acting as a strategic connection between suppliers and cross‑functional Polaris teams, the Sourcing Lead strengthens the supply base, drives cost improvements, mitigates risks, and supports the successful launch and production of powertrain components across multiple facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or another technical field.
• Professional certifications such as APICS CPIM, ISM C.P.M./A.P.P., or PMP.
• Proficiency with web‑based business systems and project management tools.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering documentation and technical data, with interest in engines or the powersports industry.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree.
• 4+ years of purchasing or related experience such as sales or engineering.
• Strong problem‑solving, negotiation, and decision‑making skills.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders effectively.
Position Overview
The Powertrain Sourcing Lead serves as the primary driver of sourcing strategy and supplier performance for pistons, starters, and starter solenoids. Responsibilities include managing supplier relationships, ensuring alignment on quality, delivery, and cost expectations, and executing actions that strengthen the global supply base. The Sourcing Lead evaluates supplier capabilities, connects suppliers with engineering teams for design enhancements, and leads annual strategy presentations to leadership.
This role initiates and manages requests for quotes, assesses total cost of ownership, and implements commodity strategies that support competitiveness and innovation. It includes leading supplier transitions to improve technology, reduce risk, mitigate tariffs, enhance performance, and optimize regional spend. The Sourcing Lead also negotiates and establishes critical supply agreements to ensure business continuity, protect Polaris legally, and enable fair cost structures.
Additional duties include managing currency and commodity updates, tooling approvals, payments, project timelines, and supplier capacity to ensure on‑time delivery. The role requires proactive problem‑solving during shortages or line‑down situations and close collaboration with engineering, planning, operations, and other departments to support development, launch, production, and ongoing product lifecycle needs.
The position is based in a fast‑paced office environment in Plymouth, MN (Bass Creek Office), with travel requirements ranging from 5% to 25%. Participation in early or late calls with international suppliers is expected.
