PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Supports FMCNA’s mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including following all regulatory and FMCNA policy requirements.

Leads a team of Pharmacy Technicians who are responsible for performing general pharmacy technician duties and assisting with the counting and filling of prescriptions. Contributes to the provision of quality pharmacy services to dialysis and other patients in accordance with state pharmacy regulations and Fresenius Medical Care Pharmacy policies and procedures. Acts as a resource and subject matter expert to other Pharmacy Technicians, intervening in challenging situations and works to resolve any escalated issues, when necessary.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acts as a subject matter expert and leads a team of Pharmacy Technicians, ensuring that quality pharmacy services are provided to patients.
  • Provides assistance to Pharmacy Technicians with job duties that require considerable judgment and initiative. Intervenes in challenging situations and works to resolve any escalated issues, when necessary
  • Mentors new staff members to facilitate attainment of required job skills and knowledge.
  • Consults with and updates supervisor, as needed regarding any team issues, task difficulties, and complex problems to ensure appropriate resolution.
  • Works on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions.
  • Per company policies and procedures, assists with dispensing of products and performs pharmacy technician duties as follows:

    • Monitors the drug file in the software application and prepares prescriptions for packaging/distribution.
    • Retrieves count and obtains prescription drugs, devices, and related materials from stock.
    • Counts and fills patient prescriptions based on order.
    • Prepares prescription labels to be placed on dispensing containers.
    • Attaches additional information and instructions on the dispensing container, when necessary.
    • Presents final dispensed product(s) to Pharmacist for verification and final check.
    • On occasion, compounds products such as creams, ointments, and liquid oral products.
    • On occasion, responsible for IV sterile compounding.
  • Ensures that pharmacy dispensing, compounding supplies, and preparation bench areas are clean and orderly at all times. Cleans equipment and sterilizes glassware according to prescribed methods.
  • Assists with performing monthly inventory checks. Reviews stock for recalls and expired medications. Notifies Inventory Coordinator or supervisor if stock is low on a particular medication or product.
  • Maintains adequate levels of inventory by ordering drugs, devices, and related materials following established procedure.
  • Assists the shipping department with the packaging, distribution, and tracking of patient orders.
  • Prepares and labels stocked drugs, devices, and related materials for future dispensing.
  • Creates and updates patient’s health and demographic information in computer system.
  • Obtains and enters patient, medical, or prescription order data into the patient information system.
  • Maintains an orderly filing system, as applicable.
  • May assist the supervisor with the coordination of daily responsibilities of the team in terms of workload.
  • Review and comply with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • May escalate difficult/complex issues to supervisor for resolution, as deemed necessary.
  • Assist with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma required; Associate’s Degree desirable; and Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) strongly preferred
  • Registered or able to be registered as a Pharmacy Technician in applicable state

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 4 – 6 years’ related experience.
  • Understanding of medical terminology and calculations is desirable
  • Demonstrated skills or aptitude for learning the sterile admixture/aseptic technique is desirable
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
  • Professional demeanor at all times
  • Knowledge of computers
