Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team of skilled and diverse experts. This role, based at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, is crucial in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders across strategic, regional, and operational levels.
Relocation assistance is not offered for this position, and this role requires on-site presence with no remote options.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a crucial component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational platform that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and tactical levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively manage networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives.
C2BMC provides a layered missile defense capability that delivers an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to improve overall performance. Furthermore, C2BMC is an essential part of all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the missile defense system's current and future capabilities.
Critical to the mission is the Global Track Processing (GTP) team, which aims to provide accurate global situational awareness through raw sensor data to the warfighter. GTP is seeking a software engineer who will excel in an environment that requires maintaining and developing Java-based applications that rely heavily on efficient algorithm development and linear algebra. Ideal applicants are enthusiastic about solving complex problems through collaboration and teamwork. This software engineer eagerly seizes the opportunity to lead their team to the finish line and occasionally welcomes being assisted. Collaboration requires excellent written and verbal communication skills; well-organized documentation in the form of clearly written software, technical memorandums, white papers, software models, and technical presentations are part of daily responsibilities.
