The main purpose of this job is to be knowledgeable in all Safety functions and assist in all areas needed. Employee will administer the training/development for Safety Specialists and assist with all Safety functions as necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The job functions listed below represent the essential job duties and responsibilities of the above-
listed position.
• Responsible for Safety Management at the terminal including, but not limited to, scheduling,
performance appraisals and Performance Review and Planning.
• Responsible for ongoing training and development of Safety staff.
• Responsible for ensuring that all Safety, personnel and driver needs are being professionally and
efficiently addressed.
• Determine dispositions on accident reviews and policy/D.O.T. violations in accordance with Safety
Department policy after approval from management.
• Have ability to fill in on any terminal based safety position if needed.
• Provide 24 hour on-call support to the Safety Department as needed.
• Ensure that all required job-related certificates and licenses are current. This applies to all terminal
staff.
• If applicable, responsible to cover for Terminal Manager in their absence.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.
• Timely and regular attendance according to the scheduled shift as determined by supervisory
personnel.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of D.O.T. regulations and company requirements, policies, and procedures for drivers.
• Knowledge of federal and state traffic laws and requirements for tractor/trailer equipment.
• Skill in operating a semi-truck and trailer.
• Excellent listening skills.
• Ability to acclimate and orient drivers to their new position at Werner Enterprises.
• Ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner.
• Skill in operating P.C. and various office equipment.
• Some minimal travel may be necessary.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• High School graduate or equivalent experience.
• One to two years of experience in a Safety Specialist position preferred.
• One to two years over-the-road tractor/trailer experience preferred.
• Certified as a Breath Alcohol Technician.
• Hold a valid CDL A with necessary endorsements.
• Six months to one-year office experience preferred.
• Public speaking and/or adult education experience.
