Architecture Manager – Application & Platform Architecture (SG27)
Job Description
Lead the Architecture of CAT Digital Applications & Platforms
We are seeking an experienced Architecture Manager to provide technical and people leadership for Application and Platform Architecture across all CAT Digital Applications & Platforms. This role is responsible for defining, governing, and evolving modern application and platform architectures that are scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned to enterprise standards.
This position focuses exclusively on application and platform architecture—including cloud-native platforms, shared services, integration patterns, and application ecosystems—supporting a broad portfolio of digital products and platforms across the enterprise.

Job Summary
The Architecture Manager – Application & Platform Architecture is accountable for setting architectural direction, ensuring consistency across solutions, and leading a team of architects responsible for application and platform design. The role partners closely with engineering leaders, product managers, enterprise architecture, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure architectural decisions enable speed, quality, and long-term sustainability.
This leader balances hands-on architectural depth with people and delivery leadership, driving architectural excellence across multiple teams and initiatives.
What You Will Do

Architecture Leadership

• Define and own application and platform architecture standards, patterns, and reference architectures across CAT digital applications.

• Ensure architectures are scalable, resilient, secure, cost-efficient, and aligned with enterprise technology strategy.

• Review and approve solution architectures, providing guidance and corrective direction where needed.

• Drive modernization initiatives, including cloud adoption, platform consolidation, and technical debt reduction.

Application & Platform Architecture

• Lead architecture for cloud-native applications, shared platforms, and enabling services, including APIs, integration layers, and developer platforms.

• Establish best practices for microservices, event-driven architectures, API-first design, and domain-aligned platforms.

• Guide architectural decisions across application lifecycle concerns such as observability, performance, availability, and operability.

• People & Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of application and platform architects.

• Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and support career development for architects.

• Foster a strong architecture community of practice focused on learning, reuse, and continuous improvement.

• Collaboration & Governance

• Partner with engineering managers and product leaders to align architecture with delivery plans and business outcomes.

• Collaborate with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams to ensure compliance with standards and policies.

• Act as an architectural escalation point for complex or cross-domain challenges.

What You Will Have

• Application & Platform Architecture Expertise

• Extensive experience designing and governing enterprise-scale application and platform architectures.

• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, distributed systems, and modern application frameworks.

• Proven ability to define architectural roadmaps and guide execution across multiple teams.

• Technical Depth

• Deep understanding of microservices, APIs, integration patterns, messaging/event streaming, and data access patterns.

• Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, platform engineering, and environment management in cloud and hybrid ecosystems.

• Strong grasp of non-functional requirements including security, reliability, performance, and cost optimization.

Leadership & Communication

• Demonstrated experience leading architects and influencing senior engineering and business stakeholders.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate architectural trade-offs and decisions.

• Ability to mentor, coach, and build alignment across diverse technical teams.

• Analytical & Strategic Thinking

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex systems and recommend pragmatic solutions.

• Experience balancing short-term delivery needs with long-term architectural sustainability.

• Considerations for Top Candidates

• Progressive career in software engineering and architecture (typically 20+ years).

• Experience leading application and platform architecture for large-scale, multi-team digital ecosystems.

• Strong background in public cloud and hybrid environments.

• Hands-on experience earlier in career as a senior engineer or architect.

• Exposure to multiple domains and IT disciplines is highly valued.

This position requires working onsite five days a week.
