We are looking for a Global Controller, who will be in charge of overseeing the accounting operations within Groupon globally. This role interacts with various departments globally and is a key business partner for many across the globe. This role has a high level of visibility within the organization and reports directly to the Chief Accounting Officer.
You’ll spend time on the following:
· Oversee, mentor, and continue building a diverse accounting team to propel the Company’s growth and success
· Oversee the end to end accounting for the international operations, including US GAAP reporting requirements and local reporting requirements
· Oversee a compliance team that is responsible for the preparation of local statutory financials statements in accordance with IFRS or Local GAAP
· Oversee the Global accounting operations team based in Chicago, IL (US); London, UK; Warsaw, Poland; and Bangalore and Chennai, India that is responsible for the Global US GAAP results and international local statutory results
· Oversee the team’s interactions with the external auditors to facilitate completion of audit procedures in a timely and efficient manner
· Maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting (i.e. SOX 404) environment to ensure compliance with policies and procedures
· Oversee execution of key projects to ensure appropriate testing prior to launch and collaborate with key business partners on testing and necessary remediation
· Provide technical accounting oversight for significant and complex transactions impacting the International accounting team, including the implementation of new accounting standards related to US GAAP, IFRS and Local GAAP
· Partner with Finance and Business Partners to address key business initiatives
· Responsible for the strategic direction of the operational accounting team
· Liaise with Tax department on indirect tax and corporate tax matters
· Work with Financial systems teams to capture the necessary financial data to ensure complete and accurate financial results
We’re excited about you if you have:
· A minimum of 15 years of accounting experience required with at least five years at a Controllership level
· People management experience - at least 5 years (direct reports)
· SOX 404 experience is required
· Experience working at a US Publicly listed Company is a plus
· Experience working with intercompany accounting and statutory reporting a plus
· Big 4 Public Accounting experience a plus
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Strong understanding of VAT laws and their impact on accounting processes
· Coach, mentor, and develop accounting team
· Ability to present to Executive Management in a clear and concise manner
· Strong understanding of US GAAP and IFRS
· Ability to multi-task and oversee several projects in a fast-paced start-up like environment
· A high level of initiative, drive and a strong sense of ownership
· Critical thinker with a natural curiosity to analyze and improve business processes
· Ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive decisive action on process improvement issues
· Open minded and culturally sensitive
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA or equivalent designation required
We work in a hybrid model - 2 days in the office (per week), 3 days remotely.
