Summary
Build and operate AI native, resilient SAP system landscapes by combining deep SAP Basis administration expertise with agentic AI capabilities (LLMs + tools + retrieval + evaluation). This role focuses on proactive, intelligent system operations—automating routine Basis activities, predicting incidents, accelerating root cause analysis, and enabling self healing patterns—while ensuring security, performance, availability, and compliance across SAP environments. The role owns AI behavior in operations, not just AI assisted monitoring.
Core Responsibilities
1) SAP Landscape Operations & Administration
Administer and operate SAP system landscapes across development, quality, and production environments.
Perform system installation, configuration, upgrades, patches, kernel updates, and system copies with minimal downtime.
Manage transports, clients, background jobs, system refreshes, and technical housekeeping activities.
2) Performance, Availability & Capacity Management
Monitor and tune SAP systems for performance, stability, and scalability across application, database, and OS layers.
Perform capacity planning, workload analysis, and resource optimization to meet current and future demand.
Diagnose performance bottlenecks and implement preventive optimizations.
3) Security, Compliance & Access Control
Implement and maintain SAP security baselines, system authorizations, certificates, encryption, and secure connectivity.
Support audit, compliance, and regulatory requirements through controlled configurations, logging, and evidence generation.
Enforce segregation of duties and least privilege principles in system operations.
4) Incident, Problem & Change Management
Lead incident response for SAP technical issues, ensuring rapid diagnosis, resolution, and communication.
Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes to prevent recurrence.
Support change and release management processes aligned to enterprise ITSM standards.
5) AI Native Operations & Intelligent Automation
Build operations agents that can interpret system signals, logs, alerts, and metrics to:
o Classify incidents and recommend probable root causes.
o Propose or execute pre approved remediation steps (restarts, parameter changes, cleanup tasks) with human in the loop controls.
Implement retrieval grounded assistance that pulls from runbooks, system documentation, historical incidents, and configuration baselines to ensure AI outputs are accurate and auditable.
Automate routine Basis activities (health checks, housekeeping, validation, reporting) using tool augmented workflows.
6) Predictive Monitoring & Self Healing Patterns
Apply AI techniques to detect anomalies, early warning signals, and trend deviations in system behavior.
Build predictive alerts for capacity exhaustion, performance degradation, or instability before business impact occurs.
Design self healing patterns with guardrails: automated recovery actions, verification checks, rollback mechanisms, and approval workflows.
7) Quality Engineering & Evaluation Loops (Ops + AI)
Define measurable KPIs for system health, operational efficiency, and AI effectiveness (false positives, resolution accuracy, MTTR impact).
Establish evaluation harnesses for AI behaviors: offline incident simulations, golden runbooks, and continuous online monitoring.
Continuously refine prompts, tools, and automation logic based on observed outcomes.
8) Platform Evolution & Collaboration
Support SAP platform evolution initiatives (cloud adoption, modernization, landscape consolidation).
Collaborate with application, integration, database, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver end to end reliability.
Enable knowledge transfer and operational readiness through standardized documentation and automation assets.
Primary Skills (AI Native Must Have)
Strong hands on expertise in SAP Basis administration across system lifecycle management and operations.
Deep understanding of SAP system architecture, performance tuning, and availability concepts.
Proven experience in incident management, root cause analysis, and production support for mission critical systems.
AI native capability: building tool augmented workflows, retrieval grounded outputs, evaluation loops, and safe automation boundaries.
Secondary / Strongly Beneficial Skills
Experience with SAP systems on modern infrastructure and cloud platforms.
Exposure to monitoring, observability, and automation frameworks used in enterprise IT operations.
Familiarity with ITSM processes, change governance, and compliance frameworks.
Scripting or automation skills to support operational tooling and repeatable processes.
What This Role Does Not Center On
Training or fine tuning foundation AI models from scratch.
Purely manual or reactive Basis administration this role builds and owns intelligent, automated operations with measurable outcomes.
