Job Purpose

The Financial Risk Management function plays a key role in identifying, monitoring and analyzing Jackson’s risk exposures.  We partner with Asset/Liability Management, Actuarial and other departments to protect Jackson’s financial strength and ensure we can deliver on promises made to policyholders and meet stakeholder expectations. The FRM function also performs in-depth reviews of significant processes and models used by Jackson to manage financial risk.

The FRM intern will have an opportunity to work on challenging and value-add projects critical to Jackson’s success. The 12-week summer internship experience will provide the candidate with a unique experience in a leading financial services company with direct exposure to senior financial risk management professionals.

Essential Responsibilities

The FRM intern will work closely with the Director, Financial Risk and other senior Risk professionals to improve Jackson’s capabilities for projecting and assessing Jackson’s capital and liquidity positions. During their internship, the FRM intern will:

  • Assist in the development and testing of financial risk models
  • Write and test code to value complex financial derivatives and their use in risk management
  • Run models and summarize findings for consumption by senior members of the Risk function and other members of the management team
  • Review and update model documentation

Other Duties

  • Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of financial mathematics and modeling concepts
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Experience with general purpose programming languages, preferably Python
  • Effective interpersonal/communication skills
  • Ability to manage time and competing priorities effectively
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate level – must have completed at least sophomore year
  • Major in Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Science or closely related field of study

  • Onsite in Lansing, MI.
