Position Description:

Gathers data to run Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) in the Cloud, through automation with integrated security and tests. Performs coding, scripting, and programs systems, using Structured Query Language (SQL) -- Java and LINUX. Leverages systems development methodologies and formal documentation processes (Kanban). Transmits data in Web application tools (XML, REST, and SOAP). Sets up platforms, monitors, logs and provides infrastructure support, using clusters. Performs load balancing using F5 load balancers. Designs, develops, and delivers high-quality, secure, dependable applications at high velocity, using DevOps best practices. Develops applications from scratch and builds robust technical solutions, using technical tools -- Java, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Angular. Contributes to development process enhancements, code reviews, innovation, and builds end-to-end technical solutions, including deploying pipelines. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participates in architecture design teams. 
  • Defines and implements application-level architecture. 
  • Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division. 
  • Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans. 
  • Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables. 
  • Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems. 
  • Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms. 
  • Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget. 
  • Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects. 
  • Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects. 
  • Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues. 
  • Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives. 
  • Advises senior management on technical strategy. 
  • Mentors junior team members. 
  • Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives. 
  • Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts. 
  • Delivers services in support of a broader technology roadmap.
  • Translates the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives.
  • Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Technology Management, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing and developing end-to-end software solutions using Java, Azure, or AWS, and database technologies (Oracle and SQL Server).

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Technology Management, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent)  and three  (3)  years  of  experience  as  a  Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or  closely  related  occupation)  designing and developing end-to-end software solutions using Java, Azure, or AWS, and database technologies (Oracle and SQL Server).

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) developing dynamic Web applications using Java, Spring Boot, and Angular (with TypeScript or JavaScript); designing and implementing REST API to support scalable, automatable, and maintainable deployments, using Docker, Kubernetes, and Jenkins; and performing API validation and manual testing, using Postman.

  • DE building robust middle-tier applications -- enabling real-time communication with dependent applications, integrating Apache Kafka for event-driven messaging to handle high volumes of data with low latency, and allowing for real time communication between services and applications -- using Java and deploying in Kubernetes clusters on Cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure or AWS); and implementing comprehensive monitoring and observability strategies to ensure performance, reliability, and operational transparency, using Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana Azure Application Insights, and Azure Log Analytics.

  • DE designing, building, and configuring Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, using Git, Maven or Gradle, Artifactory, and Jenkins; deploying Java or Angular applications to AWS or Azure Cloud platforms, using deployment automation tools (uDeploy and Terraform); and participating in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) -- analysis, design, implementation, code reviews, functional testing, and post-installation validation -- by following Agile methodologies and using  JIRA for project tracking and Git for version control.

  • DE preparing test cases and test scripts for Web applications based on functional specifications and user requirements, using automation tools -- Selenium WebDriver and Cypress; and accelerating testing cycles and ensuring high-quality software delivery, using testing frameworks -- TestNG for structured test execution and Cucumber for behavior-driven development (BDD).

Salary:  $147,680.00 - $166,000.00/year.
