A Day in the Life
The EHS Specialist will be responsible for the deployment and establishment of EHS policies and procedures in accordance with country regulations and Medtronic’s standards. The employee will perform workplace and specific risk assessments including Chemical, Biological agents, Fire, Radiation, PPE, Manual Handling, Ergonomics etc. for onsite activities and the field-based organization.
Based out of Heerlen, Netherlands, the scope for the EHS position will be commercial, as well as field, sales and service and repair employees working frequently at hospital settings in the Benelux territories, with scope for work outside of this region.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Provide leadership and direction for the development, implementation and continuous improvement of effective key EHS risk programs such as driver safety, ionizing radiation, biohazards, emergency preparedness, employee preventive medical examinations and ergonomics. Programs must ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, align to Medtronic EHS Standards and with EMEA and Corporate strategies, initiatives and goals.
- Implement a targeted health and safety and environmental risk management program that ensure the identification, assessment and control of illness and injury risks, minimizes environmental impacts and meets local regulatory requirements.
- Fulfil the role of Prevention Advisor for one or more sites in the Netherlands Commercial organisation, which will include maintenance of the preventive medical examinations program for all Netherlands sites.
- Partner with the Medtronic sub-regions, business units and functions at all levels of the organization to provide EHS technical expertise and drive a positive EHS culture. This will include supporting regions outside of Benelux.
- Cooperate with all relevant external agencies including Fire Services, Health and Safety authorities and Environmental agencies. In addition, partner with all necessary stakeholders to integrate EHS into internal processes and business decisions.
- Facilitate EHS engagement communication via regular EHS committee meetings, active involvement programs, corporate and local management reporting, newsletters and other communication forums.
- Carry out compliance-based tasks such as conducting effective incident investigations and root cause analysis, participating in EHS audits and carrying out remedial actions, all within agreed SLA’s.
- Any other duties as required by the business - flexibility is key.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent
- Sound working knowledge of EHS / Risk Management legislation and principles. Experience in local, and/or regional EHS regulatory compliance and in applying EHS programs including emergency preparedness, ergonomics and employee health checks.
- Prevention Advisor experience
- Fluent Dutch and English languages
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience delivering trainings and presentations, working on projects or developing project management skills. In addition, candidates must be highly computer literate, including strong skills in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Must be extremely organised, self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team, takes initiative and able to prioritise own workload, able to work in a constantly changing environment, outgoing and friendly and have a ‘Can Do’ attitude.
Experience in applying EHS programs including biological safety & infectious disease prevention, ionizing radiation, chemical safety. Health & Safety experience in medical device industry. The ideal candidate should have a customer focused attitude, be diplomatic but assertive, experience working across all levels of the organisation, positive and professional. A flexible approach, strong analytical skills and problem-solving will be required in the role.
