The Role: Senior Commercial Specialist, Climate Solutions

The Location: Melbourne / Perth, Austral

The Role: Climate Solution (CS) / Energy Transition (ET) Specialist is responsible for the customer experience and revenue growth of S&P CI’s Energy Transition (ET and Climate solutions) bank of business. This requires close co-ordination with Commercial team, Channel Partners, Marketing team, Client Services, Content team and Product team. The key objectives of this role are to grow new and existing CS/ET customers through market engagement, sales capability building, bringing customer insights into product development and thoughtful market targeting.  As a “sell-through” role, the ET specialist will work alongside others to drive their success in this emerging space of transition from heavy carbon to low carbon footprint energy market.

The Team: The Senior Commercial Specialist, Climate Solutions (and Energy transition) is responsible for driving ACV growth for Commodities Insight CS/ET clients and prospects.  The role sits with the Global Sales Specialist Team and reports to the Asia Director of Sales Specialists for GPCS. This role requires close co-ordination with the Sales Teams, Marketing team, Client Services, Content team and Product team.

The Impact: Energy Transitions is an emerging space with a significant strategic importance to S&P Global Commodities Insight.  Success in this role will help achieve our goal of delivering essential intelligence to satisfy the needs of our Customer as they address the Energy Transitions opportunity. 

Your Skills: Minimum of 5-10 years of B2B sales and/or industry experience (preferably in Sustainability or Energy transition space doing either research or consulting work) with a track-record of achieving revenue targets, developing new markets and maintaining a high-level of customer satisfaction. 

Responsibilities:

  • Drive Net Annual Contract Value (ACV) growth for Energy transition/Climate solution services.
  • Deliver outstanding customer experience for Energy transition/Climate solution clients and Prospects in the Oceania.
  • Cultivate a diverse pipeline of opportunities for the Energy Transitions Market Data and Insights across all segments of clients in the Oceania region.
  • Build relationships with strategic decision makers and senior stakeholders at clients ensure they utilize our content and obtain the maximum value from their service.
  • Run client meetings and deliver presentations that illustrate the Value of our ET/CS offering and specifically positions us for success against competitors.
  • Collaborate with the Sales Teams and account manager as well as Analysts and pricing Editors to ensure that presentations are coordinated and delivered by the right team or the right person. 
  • Idea generation through the collection and curation of client feedback to be shared with the Content and product Management teams. 
  • Responsibilities also include direct client engagements and presenting at our Hosted events.

Understand key customers, coordinate with Commercial, Product & Marketing teams

  • Understand the relationship and the information requirements within a complex customer base.
  • Understand the structure and strategy of the sales organization, sales channels and sales objectives.
  • Participate in planning and executing account management schedule and detailed action plan. Understand key deliverables. Meet and exceed the assigned net sales goal as well as other customer metrics.
  • Use the insights gained from the market to inform the Product Development and Marketing team activities & strategies, to ensure that our company is delivering optimal solutions for our clients.

Growth of Net Sales and New Business

  • Energy Transitions growth will be achieved by uncovering new clients (working with our new business team) as well as by working with existing clients (working with commercial/account manager of those clients).
  • Since ET/CS cuts across all other commodity markets, this role will require high coordination with other commodity specialists aswell to promote ET/CS with them in their respective clients.

Market engagement, Customer Visits, Channel Partner Support, Conferences & Forums

  • Develop and strengthen relationships with our Customers and Channel Partners.
  • Travel to client sites for sales and relationship building.  Attend marketing & channel conferences, events, roundtables, workshops and forums to promote our Energy Transitions offering. 
  • Support joint initiatives across S&P Global in the Energy Transitions and ESG space.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Must hold Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Passion for energy, commodities and energy transitions.
  • Excellent presentation skills and proven ability to work with C-Level stakeholders.
  • Strong solution-selling background with proven experience in maximizing customer value and through coordinated account planning and team approach both internally and externally.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and CRM Systems
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated strong relationship building with customers and internal stakeholders. Strong verbal and written skills are required to enable effective communications at all levels within the company and with customers.
  • Ability to travel 20-30%+ within the assigned territory.
  • Ability to independently acquire knowledge of industry, competitors, trends and products.
