What’s this team like at Etsy?

The Payments & Seller Regulatory squad is a crucial component of Etsy Payments and ensures that our payment processing and our sellers remain compliant regardless of where they are in the world. We are the gatekeepers of all payments processing and are responsible for Etsy’s PCI environment and the changes done to it. Our squad works on creating and maintaining both the user interface and the backend systems that capture and verify the data our sellers provide in order to remain compliant. We are integrated with a few vendors that help us assess the correctness of the data we have on file, allowing us to take action when necessary.

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Architecting solutions to significantly complex, unscoped problems. Systems design is a primary responsibility of this role.

  • Set technical direction for your teammates.

  • You will be involved in the early scoping of complex new projects. This involves adding nuance to complex product requirements to ensure issues are found early and often in the planning process.

  • You will work collaboratively with multiple engineers at a range of levels to support you in gaining critical onboarding about how Etsy designs and writes software.

  • Continuously learn from your teammates and share your own insights with them.

  • Push code to production early and often using our continuous deployment systems.

  • Empathy, ownership, communication, and technical skill are valued equally.

  • Participate in code and design reviews and maintain high standards of code quality.

  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience, including technical leadership, ideally in a product-minded environment.

  • Experience working with vendor integrations, especially payments-related vendors is a strong plus.

  • You care as much about building great products as you do writing great code.

  • Code quality is critically important to you, and you can help your team and others improve the quality of existing codebases.

  • Have a knack for organization and breaking down large problems into smaller ones.

  • Can be autonomous, determined and a fast learner.

  • Can confidently communicate efficiently and effectively.

  • Enjoy learning about and interacting with the people who use your product.
