Position Summary

Responsible for prepping for skills labs by making sure that the reagents, equipment, and materials are prepared properly for assigned laboratories. Prepares the research operating rooms for surgery simulations and training. Ensures all instruments and supplies are laid out, the room is prepped/draped, and that all orders for the surgery skills training sessions are ready. Immediately available throughout training sessions as a technician to pull equipment as needed.

The Washington University Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery Skills Lab has a broad curriculum that includes use of endoscopy and laparoscopic simulators, training in surgical techniques and instrumentation, cadaver dissection, instruction in emergent procedures and preparation for performing specific surgical procedures. The skills lab provides training to practicing surgeons, physicians from other disciplines, residents from other disciplines, medical students, allied health professionals and nurses. The center is accredited by the American College of Surgeons and offers Fundamentals of Endoscopy Surgery (FES), Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS), and Fundamentals of Surgical Energy (FUSE) testing.

This is an exciting role for an individual with an interest and eagerness to learn surgeries and surgical education. A knowledge base of surgical instrumentation is beneficial, as well as an understanding of operating rooms and equipment for a varying surgery preparations.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Order and maintain an inventory of the laboratory equipment and chemicals.

  • Prepare reagents and set up for the departmental laboratory courses.

  • Keep the departmental and prep laboratories organized.

  • Perform routine administrative and clerical duties in support of the departmental laboratory courses.

  • Properly dispose of waste.

  • Surgery preparation.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

$17.10 - $29.09 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
