Join us as our Head of Controls Optimisation

  • We’re looking for someone to oversee the risk and control environment across multiple technology teams, as well as control testing for technology applications
  • You’ll lead the control automation strategy across our Controls function and you’ll be accountable for our Application Control Testing Centre of Excellence and control automation
  • Recognised as a key risk partner for the Chief Data Information Officers for Retail, Commercial & Institutional, and the Chief Data & Analytics Officer, you’ll support the identification, assessment, and ongoing management of key risks within the agreed risk appetite
  • This is a high-profile role in which you’ll maintain a close working relationship with senior leaders to provide links between infrastructure and business applications
  • This role is available for a period of 12 months

What you'll do

Working with the Retail, Wealth, Commercial & Institutional and Data & Analytics key leaderships teams, you’ll provide strong risk management support for the implementation of our strategy, covering technology, the application of model risk management practices, and digital transformation. You’ll also be accountable for the Application Control Testing Centre of Excellence, leading and implementing the strategy for testing application controls.

In addition to this, you’ll:

  • Lead and implement our control automation strategy by automating control testing, continuous control monitoring, and helping to simplify and automate the control environment
  • Provide strong risk management support for the implementation of our data strategy, including the application of data, AI, and model risk management practices
  • Provide risk management and control automation expertise, oversight, and resources
  • Lead a team of risk management professionals and technical subject matter experts across multiple locations
  • Deliver guidance on increased use and leverage of automated controls and our data strategy
  • Provide rules and outcome interpretation and direction on key regulations and policies
  • Liaise with policy owners to determine appropriateness and impact of policies

The skills you'll need

To be successful in this role, you’ll need experience of heading up technology and data risk, audit, or controls teams and you’ll have strong leadership and project management skills and disciplines. We’ll expect you to have a strong understanding of technology and data risk management frameworks and their application to business strategy, and this will be coupled with experience with the three lines of defence model design and implementation.

You’ll also demonstrate:

  • Good industry knowledge and the ability to identify and manage emerging risks
  • Strong relationship management skills to build lasting and constructive working relationships
  • Experience of managing and influencing senior stakeholders up to and including executive level
  • A proven ability to think strategically and to influence key stakeholders
  • Experience of drafting and leading executive reporting
  • A background of leading diverse professional teams, including identifying and developing diverse talent
