POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Vice President, Financial Reporting & Analysis is an integral role within the Corporate Finance Group, and is responsible for producing financial reporting and analysis for the Insurance Segment. This role is critical in supporting the growing operations within Arch and the strategic plan for the Corporate Finance department.  This includes creating more efficient processes and reporting tools for expense management, as well as, corporate financial reporting support, expense tracking and analysis.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ownership of financial reporting and analysis, expense tracking, working with the SVP to prepare and reconcile GAAP/Statutory and management financial reports, analysis, planning and evaluating performance to plan

  • Set up system to track and report on expenses between the One Time Costs, TSA expenses, Corporate Overhead and BAU expenses pre-Workday ERP and then within Workday ERP

  • Oversee Insurance Segment operating expense reporting and analysis, including expense tracking for Strategic Portfolio Management, IT and Corporate allocations

  • Ownership of adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for capitalization vs. expense, journal entries, including expense accruals, pre-paids, fixed assets, amortization and depreciation and balance sheet account reconciliations and variance analysis

  • Compile expense variance analysis write-up for inclusion in the quarterly MD&A, including expense waterfall

  • Manage adherence to internal controls and propose process changes to strengthen where necessary

  • Work closely with key business partners to facilitate an efficient quarterly close to meet reporting deadlines

  • Assist or support in developing expense budget, financial & operational reports, intercompany reconciliations, headcount reporting, and budget consolidation for the Insurance Segment

  • Effectively manage the team focusing on goals, learning and development

  • Work collaboratively and with integrity and develop strong relationships with business units’ personnel, operational executives and managers 

  • Other duties, and projects as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Dynamic and motivated individual, capable of handling complex structured tasks that require close attention to timing and detail, as well as unplanned projects and challenges that require effective and unique solutions, often in a compressed timeframe

  • Experience with and exposure to various operational disciplines (underwriting, claims, IT, etc.) to ensure that finance is communicating between units and capturing all required information for downstream financial reporting.

  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Ability to apply accounting policy and standards

  • Knowledge finance and accounting software, tools and best practices

  • Ability to effectively communicate analysis and conclusions to financial information end-users, tailoring the communication to the relevant audience

  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical, organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • 7+ years of North American property and casualty insurance industry experience required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting

  • Certified Public Accountant strongly recommended

  • MBA/Advanced degree, SEC reporting and public accounting background preferred

  • Advanced leadership and strong team management skills required

For individuals assigned or hired to work in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Jersey City, NJ; New York State; and/or Washington State, the base salary range is listed below. This range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

$123,600 - $166,900/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs.  The above range may be modified in the future
