The Accessibility Office is focused on improving Vanguard’s ability to create information and functionality that is accessible to all people. Working with the Accessibility Office, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with various IT teams across sub-divisions to help them implement accessibility guidelines and best practices.
Responsibilities:
- Willingness to be the hands-on Accessibility Expert, where you will advise, support, and contribute solutions to front-end design and development teams as they strive to improve the accessibility of our client-facing digital interfaces.
- Passion to help the entire team focus on accessibility and ability to train and coach Front-End Developers, Software Testers, UX Designers, Content Strategists, Visual Designers and accessibility ambassadors on best practices and creative solutions to sometimes complicated implementations.
- Provides overview of techniques developers can use when building users interfaces that comply with Accessibility Guidelines.
- Highly functional on large, matrixed project teams. Interfaces with cross functional team members, including database administrator, IT security, project manager, technical writer, and clients. Communicates systems issues at the appropriate technical level for each audience.
- Contribute to Vanguard’s knowledge of industry accessibility acumen and documentation as needed.
- Supporting Accessibility Office tracking and monitoring of accessibility issues from discovery through remediation
- Provides advanced level IT technical lead services and direction for software, middleware, or hardware projects on a single platform. Provides technical expertise and completes complex development, design, implementation, architecture design specification, and maintenance activities.
- Ensures the viability of IT deliverables. Recommends development options and conducts testing.
- Identifies potential solutions and may approve solutions proposed by team members. Resolves complex issues uncovered by testers and internal clients.
- Communicates with key stakeholders on project issues and implications. Evaluates the impacts of change requests on technologies.
- Maintains current knowledge of IT development methodology, architecture design, and technical standards. Mentors IT staff with less experience and identifies training needs.
- Reviews and approves documentation and diagrams created by IT team members. Writes documentation, including technical standards and processes.
- Identifies opportunities for continuous quality improvement of technical standards, methodologies, and technologies.
- May participate in design, code, and test inspections throughout product life cycle to contribute technical expertise and to identify issues. Presents technical status and issues at milestone reviews.
- Thoroughly understands and complies with Information Technology and Information Security policies and procedures and verifies that deliverables meet requirements.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 level A and AA) and ability to mentor other developers.
- Knowledge of HTML 4 and 5, ARIA, CSS 2 and 3, JavaScript, Typescript
- Automated testing and building Single Page web application experience.
- Assistive technology knowledge and experience is a plus (JAWS, NVDA, Voiceover, and ZoomText).
- Development experience with Angular, React, and JavaScript/typescript frameworks is a plus.
- Working Knowledge of AWS Platform is a plus, such as but not limited to S3, EC2, Postgress, DynamoDB, ECS Fargate, Lamda
- Tableau experience
- Thoroughly understands software development methodology and architecture standards.
- Minimum of five years related work experience, with at least two years of development experience and two years of accessibility experience.
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
