Job Summary

Utilizing deep technical expertise the Data Engineer is responsible for designing and building the processes and infrastructure of data necessary for analytical and operational use cases. This role works with customers across the organization to identify opportunities for potential data sources, defines requirements for data onboarding to the Data Warehouse environments, and facilitates the internal processes to onboard and integrate data as well as prepare and optimize it for analytical use. This position works with customers at all levels across the organization to ensure analytical insights. Works across the organization to prepare data and support the design of analytical insights through reports, dashboard visualizations, data extracts, and data science models. Facilitates the discovery of new opportunities, supports data-informed decision-making for identified challenges and develops new and enhanced metrics to analyze ongoing performance metrics.

The Data Engineer reports to the Manager, Analytics Infrastructure on the Memorial Hermann Digital Analytics Team and leads creation of data flows to extract, transform and load the data and works closely with other members of the Digital Team and Analytics Community to ensure adherence to data quality and data governance standards.

Job Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Applications, Information Systems or Engineering, or four (4) years of equivalent experience is required.

Licenses/Certifications:  SNOWPRO preferred

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Five (5) years of experience in data warehousing required

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in Snowflake preferred or experience in other data warehousing such as Redshift or BigQuery

  • Expert SQL Experience required, SnowSQL preferred 

  • Demonstrated experience with all phases of the design and development life cycle of analytics applications and reporting tools

  • Must have advanced programming language skills (i.e., Python, R, SQL)

  • Must have advanced knowledge of extract, transform, and load (ETL) tools

  • Experience with deploying models using Snowflake functions preferred

  • Must be knowledgeable of best practices for designing highly-tuned datasets to meet business requirements and optimize end-user performance

  • Experiencing working in cloud infrastructure, AWS preferred

  • Experience with Tableau, Tableau Prep, and Tableau Server, preferred

  • Experience utilizing HealtheIntent, preferred

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for analysis, design and development of analytics data pipelines.

  • Completion and maintenance of source to target mapping across core systems.

  • Responsible for working with customers to identify data on-boarding needs and implement end-to-end solutions.

  • Build data flow for data warehousing projects.

  • Proactively curate data sources to meet the needs of customers.

  • Actively ensure data sources are tuned to handle data in the most efficient manner possible to maximize performance.

  • Maintain and monitor data warehouse and ensure data uptime.

  • Work with Analytics Team, specifically Data Architect, to identify, notify and manage downtimes with minimal disruptions.

  • Educate broader employee base on data architecture methods to gain efficiencies and data insights.

  • Serve as in-house resource for various types of data ETL methodologies and guide customers to the best option for quick turnaround of BI tasks.

  • Assist in development of task plans including schedule and effort estimation.

  • Participate in governance activities.

  • Lead solution development across multiple analytic projects.
