About This Role

The Associate Director, Rare Disease Market Access Strategy will support development and execution of MA&R strategy for SMA and ALS, including the development of payer messaging, pricing & contracting strategy, coordination across all other MA&R functions, and alignment with the Rare Disease Franchise. You will be responsible for execution and pulling through aligned MA&R strategies. This role will report to the Director of Rare Disease Access Strategy, who is responsible for SMA and ALS access strategy in US MA&R.

What You’ll Do

  • Support development and execution of comprehensive market access strategies to support the SMA and ALS brands across commercial and government payer segments.

  • Support cross-functional planning and execution across all MA&R functions (including Payer Insights, Trade & Distribution, Patient Access, and National & Regional Account Teams) to ensure alignment with approved strategies

  • Coordinate and align with the Rare Disease Franchise on overall strategy as well as internal and external messaging.

  • Deliver impactful value propositions, messaging, and promotional materials (both branded and unbranded) tailored to key customer segments (e.g., plans, PBMs, GPOS, IDNs)

  • Execute on pull-through activities to ensure access optimization

  • Support work with Medical, HEOR, Global V&A in the generation of evidence to support access strategy

  • Work closely with Brand, legal, and finance in the development of contracting strategy to align with market dynamics and brand goals.

  • Develop pricing and innovative contracting strategies (e.g., value-based contracts)

  • Work with cross-functional teams to model scenario-based business cases to support key contracting recommendations to senior leadership

  • Research, compile, analyze, and assess market landscape data/trends to develop customized solutions that maximize patient access

  • Support development of Free Drug and co-pay support strategies

  • Support development of SP and SD strategies to optimize patient access

  • Execute and support training of MA&R RADs and NADs in alignment with approved strategies and materials

  • Support initiatives to evaluate MA&R performance in support of the Rare Disease Franchise

  • Support multiple cross functional teams in various projects as a market access expert (e.g., gross-to-net workstreams, forecasting, long-range planning, etc.)

  • Support pipeline activities, including Biogen’s pipeline assets for the SMA and ALS populations

Who You Are

You are a proactive market access expert with strong communication and analytic skills with deep expertise in the US healthcare system.

Required Skills

  • BA, BS or equivalent required, MBA preferred

  • 7+ years of pharmaceutical, biopharma industry experience, including direct responsibility for marketing activities, ideally for payers, HCPs, and reimbursement audiences.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally to develop payer messaging, contracting strategy, build business cases, and develop training/communication plans for field teams

  • Knowledge of standard Payer research methodologies, financial analyses, and gross-to-net dynamics 

  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking and critical thinking skills with the ability to translate data into strategy

  • Must be highly motivated with strong interpersonal and communications skills

  • Ability to develop and deliver clear, compelling presentations on complex pricing topics to senior-level executive audience

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and effectively prioritize to meet individual and team goals.

  • Must be able to produce high quality, accurate work under time constraints.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional and cross-team ties to influence colleagues. 

  • Must have the ability to work effectively in a team environment

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $171,000.00-$236,000.00


Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
